Shop Local: Mili’s Flowers + Gifts Bring Flower Power To Crosstown Concourse

milli's Flower Truck

If you’ve ever seen an extremely cute, vintage mobile flower truck popping up at events around town, it belongs to Miriam “Mili” Cordero, owner of Mili’s Flowers & Gifts.

A lover of flowers since she was a little girl—she developed her passion for making floral arrangements with her mother and grandmother while growing up in Reynosa Tamauilipas, Mexico—Mili decided to take the leap and launch her business in 2019 after her and her husband found and renovated the “peachy” VW truck.

New Memphis Field Guide From Wildsam

For years I’ve been wishing Memphis could get the Wildsam treatment, and I’m happy to say it’s finally happened!

Wildsam creates unique small format field guide books that are filled with essays, illustrations, and lists after a city or region. Best of all (and this is not the case with every travel guide out there) they work with local artists and writers to create the books.

Alice Faye Duncan: A Memphis Writer for Young Readers

Being a child of two educators, it only made sense that children’s picture book author and activist Alice Faye Duncan would become a writer who teaches as well as entertains with her writing. While she didn’t follow in their footsteps and become a teacher, she DID see the gaps in the education system when it comes to history, thus beginning her journey as a writer.

Shop Local: Lucyja Hygge

The act of practicing self-care is nothing new, but finding spaces where you can go to explore and dive deeper into true wellness and holistic services (because it’s about more than just a bubble bath or face mask) is needed more than ever. Lucyja Hygge is here to help you on that journey. Open since August 2021, Lucyja Hygge is a metaphysical gift store owned by Termaria "Maria" Tyszka; the name pays homage to Maria’s Polish mother in law (Lucyja), and the concept of Hygge – pronounced (hoo-gah)- a Danish word for creating a feeling of coziness, comfort, and well-being.

Shop Local: Everbloom Design

Everbloom Design is picture-perfect flower, plant, and gift shop on Broad Avenue in Memphis.

One of the coolest things about Memphis’ creative community is that we are all 1 - 3 degrees separated from each other, so over the years we are bound to connect at some point at an event or through a mutual friend.

I first met Kristin Wolter-Canfield back in 2014 when she held a DIY floral design workshop that I covered on her blog. It was a pop-up event at Propcellar, so to see her bloom into her own space in the Broad Avenue Art District has been a delight.
