Shop Local: Grey's Fine Cheese & Entertaining

owners

Turophiles unite! If you’re a lover of all things cheese and live to host gatherings with a cute and delicious charcuterie board on display, add GREYS Cheese & Entertaining to your list of must-visit places.

In business since the Fall of 2019 (they started online through collaborative tastings with local restaurants and cheeseboards that you could order, but opened their first brick and mortar this past May), GREYS Cheese & Entertaining offers a vast selection of artisan cheeses, but you can now enjoy tastings, workshops and in-house dining in their beautifully rustic space in the Williamsburg Village Shopping Center (near Mrs. Post Stationary).

In addition to cheese, they’ve also curated a collection of specialty jams, artisan crackers and everything you need to create the ultimate cheeseboard at home.  Owners Jackie Mau and Kurt Mullican (aka “Cheesemonger Kurt) have traveled all around the country, meeting and working with craftsmen to ensure they have the best of the best to offer in GREYS. Keep reading for a little insight on why this new spot is anything but cheesy.

Why East Memphis for your location?

We had an opportunity to get a space in a new plaza in the heart of Memphis.  We thought being centrally located in the heart of Memphis would give our turophiles (cheese lovers) the best access to our shop.

What do you feel makes GREYS different from other specialty shops/businesses?

We are the first cheese shop in our city and our focus since we started online has always been educating our customers on cheese.  How to eat, store and pair it with other foods and wine.

What’s your favorite part about owning this business?

Meeting our customers. We have had an opportunity to meet so many wonderful people at our store; it's a blessing.  There are turophiles who are "regulars' ' and we get to share with them experiences and get to know them better.  We see them learn more about cheese and expand their palette as they try new flavors.  There are some amazing people in this city and we are so blessed to have a chance to meet so many of them.

How can people shop with you/keep up with what’s happening with the store?

People can shop with us at the store or online.  We have a vast selection of cheeses plus great retail products.  We want to be your one stop shop for cheese, which is why we offer lots of European products as well as locally made goods, books, gift boxes, cheese knives, cheeseboards and so much more.

There is a lot going on at the shop all the time between our workshops, private events, special sandwiches on Saturdays and so much more*.  To keep up with store happenings you can sign up for our newsletter online, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram
