Shop Local: Everbloom Design

Everbloom Design is picture-perfect flower, plant, and gift shop on Broad Avenue in Memphis.

One of the coolest things about Memphis’ creative community is that we are all 1 - 3 degrees separated from each other, so over the years we are bound to connect at some point at an event or through a mutual friend.

I first met Kristin Wolter-Canfield back in 2014 when she held a DIY floral design workshop that I covered on her blog. It was a pop-up event at Propcellar, so to see her bloom into her own space in the Broad Avenue Art District has been a delight.

Kristin’s beautiful working studio is what creative space dreams are made of, and right before the pandemic she converted half of the space into a retail shop. Her huge windows that draw in a ton of natural light will draw you in, but the stem bar, mid-century modern decor and gifts will keep you there, plotting to take everything home.

I recently stopped by to see the new updates, chat with Kristin, and take a few goodies home with me!

Q&A With Everbloom Design Owner Kristin Wolter-Canfield

Kim: How long has Everbloom Design been open/in business?

Kristin: I’ve been doing florals for 15 years and worked out of my home studio until 2018. When I opened the Broad Ave location as a working studio, I primarily used it for wedding and event production; I also used it as a classroom to teach floral design.

In February of 2020 we decided to split the studio in half and offer retail. While the timing was not ideal, we were able to stay open with daily orders for contactless pick up and delivery. Since so many people were away from their families because of the Pandemic we got lots of orders, and we loved being able to help families connect with loved ones.

Kim: Why the Broad Avenue Art District for your first location?

Kristin: I had been drawn to Broad Avenue ever since we went to our first Art Walk 12 years ago. I could tell even then that it was a budding arts community and I had hoped to be a part of it somehow. The location is perfect for us to get to Downtown Memphis or out East for our weddings and events and now with the shop we love being part of the growing district.

Kim: What do you feel makes Everbloom Design different from other plant/floral shops?

Kristin: We are not a typical flower shop. While we do offer flowers for every occasion, we only offer Designer's Choice. This means all of our designs are done in our signature wild garden style., utilizing bright, cheerful colors and seasonal blooms. I believe in the power of flowers and color to lift your mood and create a positive environment.

Kim: Does Everbloom Design still offer any classes or any additional education for those that may not know much about plants/have black thumbs?

Kristin: Before opening the retail portion of the shop I often taught floral design in the studio. I really love sharing my passion for design with others. Again, I believe in the power of creativity and that everyone can benefit from the process. Due to Covid, we have not had any classes as our shop and studio are quite small and we can not accommodate large groups. As soon as we feel it is safe to resume classes we will.

Kim: What’s your favorite part about owning this business?

Kristin: I love being a part of people's biggest moments and celebrations. Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, even celebrations of life. I am honored to share my gifts in a way that brings joy to other people's lives.

Kim: How can people shop with you/keep up with what’s happening with the store?

The best way to keep up with us is through Instagram (everbloomdesignmemphis) and you can order flowers by calling the shop or ordering online. (everbloomdesign.com)
