Memphis International Airport opened its new B concourse on February 15, 2022. After years of construction, covid, and $245 million, the concourse is now open to the public with new amenities, natural light, and a much nicer airport experience.
A family business in South Memphis has a new, colorful way to share their rich history with the community—and visitors from around the world.
The Four Way soul food restaurant recently unveiled a new mural on their 76-year-old building. The artwork features portraits of past and current owners including Irene Cleaves, Willie Earl and Jo Ellen Bates, and Patrice Bates Thompson. The figures are painted on a background of golden, orange, and bright teal circles with the restaurant’s signature green color as accents.
Farhat Othmani, 56, wants nothing more than to have a conversation with you. He looks mild-mannered and maybe a bit shy—his square-framed glasses, clean-shaven face, and broad figure brings to mind Clark Kent with less of a superhero coif. But, he’ll talk your ear off if you let him. Even his adopted American name has stuck around because he believes it makes good conversation. He prefers to go by Fred.

Shrouded in the purple glow of bungalow bar lights on Young Avenue, mixologist Jef Hicks is hard at work. Behind warm eyes and a wide smile, the soft-spoken Hicks is welcoming his first customer of the night, a neighborhood local eager for a taste of Cooper-Young’s newest nightlife, Memphis Whistle.
