Small Business Passport Supports 14 Women-Owned Memphis Shops

The Small Business Passport includes discounts for each shop and a map to encourage Memphians to shop local and women-owned.

The holiday season is upon us and if you’re in need of gift ideas or just everyday needs, you can easily refer to the new Small Business Passport. Keep reading to see what discount each store will offer!

Passports can be picked up at any participating shop

Fourteen area shop owners have come together to help raise awareness about their businesses and to support the growth of women-owned businesses in the city through this passport initiative.

Each business is offering a special deal when shoppers with the passport make a purchase from now through December 31, 2023. Passports can be picked up at any participating shop. Shoppers collect a passport at one of the participating shops and get it stamped at every store they visit.

The idea originated with Whitney Winkler, artist and shopkeeper at Whitney Winkler Art in the Broad Ave. Arts District, after a quiet day in her store.

"I just remember having a hard day, and thinking, 'Surely I am not alone in both the highs and lows I feel as a brick and mortar entrepreneur.” She added, "It felt vulnerable to reach out at first, but after our first meeting, I knew we all were going to be so much better together."

The passport was designed by sisters and owners of ARCHd in downtown, Kristen and Lindsey.

“What excites us most about this partnership is the potential to grow our business right here in our hometown with our fellow women-owned businesses,” they said. “Imagine if we all got 5 new customers from each of our fellow shops. That’s 65 new customers for each of us! Being downtown, we get a lot of tourists coming through asking for recommendations. Now we will have a tangible way to provide that to them in the way of the women-owned passport, all while supporting our fellow women-owned businesses.”

There are so many great shops from Downtown to East Memphis participating in this passport – many that we have featured here on the blog too thanks to our wonderful shop local contributor Kim Thomas. We’ll link to all of our blogs so you can learn more about each and see how beautifully done they all are.

We’re big fans of women supporting women so we love to see the small business community come together in this way.

“This is the beginning of business sisterhood, where we are choosing support for one another instead of competing against one another,” Grace Byeitima, owner of Mbabazi House of Style, on Broad Avenue said.

About the Author

Hello! I'm Jalyn Souchek, the Director of Content for I Love Memphis Blog! I love calling the 901 home. When I'm not running the blog you can find me cheering on the Grizzlies, at a concert, exploring a new restaurant or kicking back at one of our breweries. I hope you'll love experiencing Memphis with me.

Build your perfect Memphis meal:

I love to eat so if I were to have only one meal left.. I’m going all out. I’d start with an app of Gumbo Fries from Blue City Cafe or Bayou Fries from Chef Tam, wings from Good Fortune or Central’s (honey gold and Jamaican Jerk), potato salad from Fat Larry’s, side of bbq spaghetti from Bar-B-Q Shop, and fried okra from Soul Fish. All paired with a Beale Street Brewing Space Age Sippin’.

Your most memorable Memphis moment:

College GameDay on Beale Street. That was an electric and perfect morning. I was still working in news then and was able to take it in up close and on the stage at some points. The fun and joy of everyone down there that morning is unbeatable.
