Only in Memphis can you walk along a scale model of the Mississippi River right next to the real thing.Assignment #108 on the 365 Things to Do in Memphis list is to take a walk along the model Mississippi on Mud Island.

Though the model river spans the equivalent of five city blocks, it only covers the lower 954 miles of the Mississippi River. I have to wonder if somewhere up north, there's a similar model of the river's upper half. 

Summer on the Riverfront Starts Now!

The Memphis River Parks Partnership has new events and things to do on the Memphis Riverfront this summer, including beers at Beale Street Landing, kid-friendly activities at the River Garden, and live music at Mud Island. 

Tom Lee Park is under construction, and Mud Island is undergoing some renovations, but there's still plenty happening downtown on the river in Memphis, Tennessee!

Downtown dog owners, take note - the Barking Lot is open.

The Barking Lot is (at this point) downtown Memphis' only dedicated dog park. It's in the footprint of an old building, which means that the small, fenced park fits neatly on the street.
