5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 11/18 - 11/20
5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 11/18 - 11/20
Happy Friday, Memphis! Here's your short list of five super fun things to do in Memphis this weekend:
Get your holiday shopping done early at the 62nd annual Memphis College of Art holiday bazaar. The MCA students, faculty and staff will be selling original works (think paintings, drawings, handmade books, Christmas ornaments and very pretty practical items). You can shop tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., or tomorrow from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., when the crowds will be less intense. All proceeds benefit the MCA scholarship fund.
2. Preserve the Indoor Trailer Park Party, Tad Pierson's Indoor Trailer Park, Friday, 6 p.m., free
Help save one of Memphis' most quirky hidden landmarks this weekend. Tour guide / artist Tad Pierson is in danger of losing his amazing live / work / studio space, the Indoor Trailer Park, and his friends are banding together to help. Tonight, you can party in the park, buy artwork, book nights to stay in the trailers and generally throw down for a good cause. The Indoor Trailer Park is located just west of Danny Thomas, right behind Stop 345 between Monroe and Madison (Sorry - I don't have an exact address - know that if you make the effort to find it, you'll be rewarded).
3. Downtown Dining Week, participating downtown restaurants, Friday - Sunday, $20.11 per person
If there's a downtown restaurant you've always wanted try, this weekend is a good time. For just a few more days, 19 participating restaurants (including Felicia Suzanne's, Paulette's, Chez Philippe and Bleu) are offering three-course dinners for $20.11 per person (excluding tax, drink and tip). Take a look at all of the menus, then make a reservation - you'll likely need one for tonight or Saturday night.
4. Zoo Lights, Memphis Zoo, Friday - Dec. 30, 5:30 p.m. - 10 p.m., $5 members, $7 non-members
If you just can't wait for the holidays, I've got good news for you: the Memphis Zoo's annual holiday celebration starts this weekend. Zoo Lights features light displays, pictures with Santa, animals on display (in the Animals of the Night area), singing Christmas trees and the return of the Zoo's ice skating rink. Admission is $7 for non-members, and skating (with skate rental) is an additional $6.
5. Imaginocean, Orpheum Theatre, Saturday, 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., $15
The Orpheum is hosting two special performances of Imaginocean on Saturday. The show, which is a musical about three fish friends on an amazing adventure, is part of the Orpheum's family series. It's the kind of show that's perfect for younger children (think ages 3 - 9), especially if they've never been to the Orpheum before.
If none of these events sound like fun, you can find plenty more on the calendar. No matter what you do this weekend, have a great time (and come back tell me about it on Monday).
