As sad as I was when I found out that Do was closing, two things have made it ok: 1) the Beauty Shop selling Do's curry noodle soup; and 2) DKDC (the bar that opened its place) is great.

As much as I used to love Abyssinia, it's kind of taken a dive lately. The food is still pretty good, it's just not as amazing as it used to be.

That's why I'm glad I saw Bianca mention Derae on her blog a few days ago. It's a new-ish Ethiopian and Middle Eastern restaurant on Highland, just a little bit south of Park. I was all excited about going yesterday, until I realized that they're closed on Mondays.

It's been so cold this week, which means that all I've wanted to do is eat a ton of soup.  But delicious though it is, soup isn't always substantial. That's the best thing about Chang Mai noodles from Bhan Thai - they walk a nice, curry-flavored line between soup and a meal.

After years of selling her food at Memphis-area farmers markets, she opened a storefront in Cooper Young last month. The shop, called Cooper St. 20/20, isn't a full service restaurant. It's more of a commercial kitchen that's got a fully stocked refrigerator, ready for the raiding.

It's hard to miss Marlowe's. You drive south on Elvis Presley Blvd., past Graceland, through a few lights, and boom, there it is on the right side of the street, a gleaming barbecue beacon, bathed in pink light.
