Johnny Cash's first rental in Memphis
When Johnny Cash moved to Memphis in 1954, he had to live somewhere. He rented an apartment in this brick building on McLean between Union and Peabody. The building is still in use as apartments. That's one of the cool things about Memphis - our famous spaces are still in use. (See the rest of the found items on the Memphis Scavenger Hunt List)

Famous places are still in use--when not torn down. I remember this building from when I used to walk around that area--a beautiful neighborhood!

How cool; right down the street from me! I heard somewhere that Johnny lived at one time on Durbin, over in the Berclair neighborhood. Anyone know anything about that?

In Johnny's first wife Vivian Liberto's book, "I walked the line, my life with Johnny Cash" she states that their first home was on 1624 East Moreland in Memphis, TN. Johnny went to Memphis to get him & Vivian a place the live then they married and moved to that address.

This is the building where a scene from Walk the Line was filmed. Cash never was actually a tenant here.
