Things To Do In Memphis On A Rainy Day

It's raining, it's too hot to be outside, or you're just feeling blah and can't come up with anything to do when the weather is under the weather.

For whatever reason you have here's a list of things to do in Memphis on a rainy day.

Visit the National Civil Rights Museum

Visit the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel and learn about the civil rights struggle from slavery up until today.

Explore MoSH

Go to the Museum of Science & History (formerly the Pink Palace Museum) for exhibits on local and natural history, visiting exhibits, a giant 3D theater, and planetarium.

Check out the art at the Brooks

Peruse the artwork at the Brooks Museum. It's bigger than you think and has all kinds of artwork - Renaissance, Impressionist, Modern, Folk - plus cool traveling exhibits and usually a fun hands-on area for the kids.

Wander the Concourse

Explore the Crosstown Concourse! It's a 1.1 million square foot mixed use space with art galleries, shops, a mini library, and great places to eat. Plenty of room to stretch your legs even when the weather is iffy outside.

Dance Your Way Through Stax

Learn about the history of soul music and Memphis' role in that world-famous sound at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in South Memphis.

Peruse The Pyramid

Wander around the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid. You might not want to pay to visit the observation deck if it's raining, but there are aquariums, a bowling alley, boats, and plenty of spectacle to keep you entertained.

Hidden Gems at the Belz

Discover all the amazing artifacts at the Belz Museum. It's probably one of the most underrated museums in town in my opinion, with some truly interested Chinese and Judaic artifacts and art.

Hands-On Fun at CMOM

Take the kids to the Children's Museum of Memphis for hands-on fun, cool exhibits, and a ride on the Grand Carousel.

Tour A Distillery

Tour the Old Dominick Distillery downtown; if you're over 21, you can sample their spirits at the conclusion of the tour through the historic building.

Peabody Lobby People Watching

People watch in the Peabody Hotel Lobby. There's the Duck March daily at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., a few very nice shops, plus bars and restaurants if you require refreshment.

Brewery Sips

Take a brewery tour at one of Memphis' several taprooms. If it's not a day they offer a tour (which is mostly just on weekends), most of them have board games. Here's a guide to local breweries.

Test Your Knowledge

Get a team together for trivia or to play BINGO. There are a tons of places around town that host these in the evenings. Check out Cerrito Entertainment for a schedule.

Game It Up At An Arcade

Check out the uber-unique, locally owned arcades, NerdAlert901 and Rec Room, or go wild at Main Event Entertainment or Dave & Busters. Expect loads of games and big fun. Read more about Nerd Alert 901 in Cooper Young.

Get Moving

Get some exercise at an indoor fitness class, yoga studio, or trampoline gym. There are a ton of them. Google is your friend. Another idea we forget about: bowling.

Learn About The Blues

Listen to the blues at the Blues Hall of Fame on South Main in downtown Memphis. See their newest exhibits, view artifacts from the lives of the best blues musicians, and listen to your heart's content.

Exercise Your Brain At An Escape Room

Use your brain power at one of Memphis Escape Room's custom rooms in East Memphis or Downtown.
