Shop Local: 17 Berkshire

I live for a vanilla latte and lavender macaron, and there’s nothing quite like grabbing one from 17 Berkshire. Inspired by watching her mother sew and bake while growing up, owner Nuha Abuduhair started 17 Berkshire out of her home in 2015 before opening her own business in Overton Square the Summer of 2018. The patisserie’s bright aesthetic, with marble table tops and wainscotting on the wall, is an instagrammer’s dream.

In addition to lattes and scratch baked pastries, you can also schedule Afternoon Tea at 17 Berkshire, a fun activity for baby showers, or just  a way to spend the afternoon with family and friends. Continue reading to learn a little more about Nuha and see why the deliciously sweet treats that they offer (macarons, cupcakes, and some of the best chocolate chip cookies you will ever have) make 17 Berkshire a weekly must-stop for many when visiting Midtown.

Q&A with 17 Berkshire Owner Nuha Abuduhair

Kim: Why Overton Square for your first location?

Nuha: It kind of fell into my lap.  I had always been a fan of Overton Square and loved the support midtown had for local businesses. When I was ready to open a storefront, I called about another location in East Memphis and they offered me a spot in Overton Square.

Kim: What do you feel makes 17 Berkshire different from other specialty bakeries/patisseries?

Nuha: We focus on the whole experience.  When you walk into the shop you’re greeted with a beautiful atmosphere, flavors that are unique, and pastries that aren’t available anywhere else in the Mid-South really.  We’re able to cater to customers through Afternoon Tea, theme days, bespoke cakes, and walk-ins.

Kim: What’s your favorite part about owning this business?

Nuha: The opportunities and people it’s exposed me to who I otherwise wouldn’t have met.

Kim: Any special events or upcoming classes happening that we should know about?

Nuha: We’ve got some fun theme days lined up for 2023 and will announce them soon!
