LIKE THE MEMPHIS WEATHER...BUSINESSES CHANGE HOURS ALL THE TIME. BE SURE TO CALL AHEAD TO DOUBLE CHECK.

Huey's

Huey's has 10 locations in Memphis and the Mid-south, and normally many of them are open until midnight on weekdays and later (think 1 a.m. or 2 a.m.) on weekends

Food rec: For late night munchies, you can't go wrong with cheese fries. I'm partial to the smashburger, too.

Alex’s Tavern

This beloved old school dive is open from 3 p.m. until midnight (1 a.m. on Friday & Saturday) with a juke box, shuffleboard, TVs, and beer. You can call for takeout, too.

Food rec: Eating at Alex’s is a must, and it’s basically impossible to choose: get ribs, get wings, get a Greek burger—you'll be happy.

Slider Inn

Both locations make for a great late night spot. Slider Inn midtown stays open until 1 a.m. weeknight ands 3 a.m. on weekends and the kitchen closes one hour before bar. Downtown closes at midnight and 1:30 a.m. on weekends with the kitchen closing 30 minutes before the bar.

Food rec: I usually get the Ribeye sliders and the reuben/cuban egg rolls.

Downtown

Bardog Tavern

Bardog is normally open until 3 a.m. with the kitchen closing at 1 a.m. It's strictly 21+ and allows smoking upstairs. I find their food consistently hot, fresh, and way, way better than your usual pub grub. They also do weekday breakfast and weekend brunch.

Food rec: It’s hard to choose, but the Deluxe Grilled Cheese and Amazing Island Club are two favorites. Bardog's chicken tenders are especially good and come with plenty of dipping sauces.

Blues City Cafe

One of the best spots to grab a bite to eat on Beale Street is also open late night for food. They close at 1 a.m. on weekdays and 3 a.m. weekend nights. BBQ, Catfish, tamales, and more.

Food rec: Gumbo cheese fries. I crave these weekly.

Earnestine & Hazel’s

Earnestine & Hazel's is normally open until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday (11 p.m. otherwise) though they may stop serving Soul Burgers before then.

Food rec: The Soul Burger is their only menu item, and I heartily endorse it. It comes with Brim's potato chips.

Kooky Canuck

This Canadian-influenced restaurant serves up great drink deals and late-night food. Kooky Canuck is open weeknights until 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. on weekends. Kitchen may close earlier.

Food rec: This menu is truly packed with good eats but I cannot say no to the poutine. The poutine burger is our go-to!

Max's Sports Bar

Friendly neighborhood sports bar that's open late and serving late. Known for their bbq nachos and hot dogs but recently expanded to include pizzas and they are good!!

Food rec: The bbq nachos always hit the spot but the new pizzas are great. Keep it simple with a pepperoni pizza.

Momma's

It's only fitting that a trucker-themed bar and restaurant is open early and late. On weeknights they close at 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on the weekend. Burgers, sandwiches, and more on the menu. Momma's is strictly 21+,

Food rec: The firebird chicken sandwich and fries or the bubba burger.

Westy's

A Memphis institution, Westy's is a tried-and-true casual pub with an enormous menu served until 2 a.m., 365 days a year. They even have delivery available until 2 a.m.

Food rec: Whichever one of the 30 different rice dish options sounds the best to you. Got a sweet tooth? They also serve a famous Hot Fudge Pie.

Cameo

Don't sleep on the food at this beloved cocktail bar! It's mostly light bites but the Cameo cheeseburger is perfection. The menu also has popcorn chicken nuggets, a veggie burger, buffalo chicken dip, and more. Kitchen stays open until midnight.

Food rec: Cameo cheeseburger -- they offer a smaller version on the happy hour too!

Celtic Crossing

Celtic Crossing in Cooper Young is open until 10 p.m. on school nights and midnight on the weekend, and the kitchen will likely close before that. A good option for medium late night eating. They’ve got a spacious patio as well. It’s 21+ on weekend late nights.

Food rec: Fish & Chips with some Scottish eggs.

Madison Tavern

This Overton Square tavern is open late every night until 2 a.m. The menu has traditional bar food with a twist like Birria quesadillas, elote questo & chips, po boys, pasta dishes and more.

Food rec: The barbacoa grilled cheese!

Young Avenue Deli

This Cooper Young staple has a big beer and food menu, and they serve Memphis late night food. Young Ave closes at 1 a.m. -- kitchen likely closes a little bit earlier than that. Sit at the bar, get your food to-go, or order delivery if you’re in the area. It can get busy, so don't underestimate the power of calling ahead.

Food rec: Those cheese sticks and pimento cheese fries are undeniably awesome.

Brookhaven Pub

Brookhaven’s bar is open until 1 a.m. daily, though the kitchen might close before then. They have a spacious patio for your hungry group of friends. 21+ after 9 p.m.

Food rec: The Tiger Bleu Chips - potato chips covered in chicken, bleu cheese, and BBQ sauce - are legendary.

Flames Mediterranean & Grill

With the proximity to U of M, this Mediterranean grill is open late from Thursday to Saturday until midnight. The menu is full of burgers, kebabs, gyros, and more.

Gibson's Donuts

Gibson's Donuts may not be open 24/7 anymore but it's still a good spot if you're craving a late night sweet treat. They now close at midnight.

Food rec: I like a classic plain glazed donut but the maple bacon and apple fritters are both must get too.

The Half Shell

The Mendenhall Half Shell location is a great option for dining late-ish out East serving up a big variety of seafood dishes and poboys. Mendenhall is open until 11 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on weekends.

Food rec: The shrimp bruschetta is tasty, a Memphis favorite.

Newby's

Another U of M area spot, Newby's is the self-described college bar you never graduate from. The best part of college bars, they're open late and usually with food. Newby's offers the traditional bar foods like mozzarella sticks, burgers, wings, and pizza. Newby's is open late until 3 a.m. but the kitchen likely closes a little earlier than that.

Food rec: Chicken tenders are always a safe bet!

RP Tracks

R.P. Tracks near the Highland Strip has been a U of M favorite for more than 30 years. They have good vegan and vegetarian options and are open until 1 a.m. for lateish night Memphis food.

Food rec: The BBQ Tofu Nachos are a favorite for a reason. You can get them with meat, but even carnivores should try the BBQ tofu.

Tommy's Burger California Style

California style hamburger restaurant that's open until 11 p.m. every night of the week. In addition to burgers, they serve sandwiches, breakfast platters, Mexican food, and more.

Food rec: Get the classic double bacon cheeseburger.

Build your perfect Memphis meal:

I love to eat so if I were to have only one meal left.. I’m going all out. I’d start with an app of Gumbo Fries from Blue City Cafe or Bayou Fries from Chef Tam, wings from Good Fortune or Central’s (honey gold and Jamaican Jerk), potato salad from Fat Larry’s, side of bbq spaghetti from Bar-B-Q Shop, and fried okra from Soul Fish. All paired with a Beale Street Brewing Space Age Sippin’.

Your most memorable Memphis moment:

College GameDay on Beale Street. That was an electric and perfect morning. I was still working in news then and was able to take it in up close and on the stage at some points. The fun and joy of everyone down there that morning is unbeatable.
