Mahjong Monday at Pike & West

Every Monday night, Pike & West opens its doors for open-play mahjong (American style, using the National Mah Jongg League card) hosted by Bam Bird Society. Experienced players and brand-new beginners sit at the same tables — that's the point.

We handle the setup: tiles, tables, light refreshments. Bring your current NMJL card if you have one — if not, we'll help you get one.

American mahjong has Chinese origins going back to the Qing Dynasty and a deep Jewish-American lineage through the NMJL card, standardized in 1937. We hold both of those threads plainly. What you'll find here is a warm room, a weekly ritual, and a community — a real third place, in the neighborhood.
