Remember recess? The mad dash to the kickball field, the thrill of not getting picked last, the pure, uncomplicated joy of just playing? Someone in Memphis decided grown-ups shouldn't have to give that up so they built an entire festival around getting it back.
Recess Reloaded is landing at Mud Island River Park on August 29, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and it's billing itself as exactly what it sounds like: an adult field day festival where the only rule is "No Kids. No Phones. Relax. Reload." Think mechanical bull rides next to a rock climbing wall, obstacle courses next to giant water slides, and a slip-and-slide relay race happening at the same time as a full-on gladiator jousting match all with DJs and a live performance from J.Buck and the BuckNasty Tribe keeping the energy up from start to finish.

This isn't a picnic with a few lawn games tacked on. The 2026 lineup reads like a bucket list of everything you loved as a kid, scaled up for a 21-and-over crowd:
Mechanical bull contest. Obstacle course. Rock climbing wall. Slip and slide relay races. Bubble ball. Sack races. Giant water slides. Gladiator jousting. And that's before you factor in the food trucks, the vendors, and the DJs who'll be spinning throughout the day.
The newly announced live music lineup adds another reason to show up: J.Buck and the BuckNasty Tribe will be performing, bringing a heavy dose of soul and funk to the day's soundtrack.
This will be the event's second year in Memphis. The 2025 debut set the tone with high-energy games, interactive attractions, and a crowd that showed up ready to compete. For 2026, organizers are scaling everything up.

The Guy Behind the Reload
Fletcher Cleaves grew up playing football, and by 2009 he was a freshman on scholarship at Lambuth University. That September, a distracted driver crossed into his lane and hit his vehicle, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. He rebuilt his life from there earning a computer science degree from the University of Memphis and eventually becoming a public speaker, sharing his story on stages with ESPN, College GameDay, and the National Transportation Safety Board. He's also known internationally as The Wheelchair Nomad, traveling the world and reviewing destinations for accessibility, and was inducted into his alma mater Cordova High School's Hall of Fame.
Recess Reloaded grew directly out of that mission: reclaiming joy and proving limitations are often self-imposed. A festival built entirely around adults playing without inhibition.

Recess Reloaded takes over Mud Island River Park (South Front Street, Memphis) on Saturday, August 29, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This one's for grown-ups only, so leave the little ones at home and get ready to be a kid again yourself.
This is a rain-or-shine event. In the event of severe weather, the festival will be rescheduled to Sunday, August 30. Lawn chairs with coolers of water and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed to be brought in.
