Kate Roberts: Between Two Kingdoms

OPENING RECEPTION: July 10, 5:30pm - 8:00pm

ShapeShifter presents the work of Kate Roberts, which explores the liminal space between earth, sky and all that is in between. Using local clay and dust, this exhibition fluctuates between states of being, whether ephemeral or fossilized, in order to question the impact humans have on each other and the environment they inhabit. The show runs July 1 through August 15 in the upstairs gallery. Opening reception is on Friday, July 10 from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm, and there will be an Artist Talk on July 25 at 11:30 am.

Roberts states, “I examine the temporary physicality and meaning of objects, structures and the spaces they exist within. I draw from historical objects and architecture around me, as well as past events and choices that shape our current Anthropocene. Through this lens, I produce distorted and ghostly works that are a fleeting, fragile reminder of the consequences of nature, time, and circumstance. The work questions our responsibility to care and education with the
ultimate hope of building awareness and empathy.”
