15 Best New Memphis Restaurants In 2023

In 2023, we said goodbye to some of our favorite restaurants but we also welcomed a plethora of new restaurants to open their doors. This list accounts for 15 of our favorite new restaurants, in alphabetical order, to open in 2023.

While many restaurants expanded to more locations this year, we kept this list strictly to new concepts.

Got a suggestion for an addition? We kept it to just 15 picks but there's probably 25 more we could add. Leave it in the comments!

Best New Memphis Restaurants in 2023

Amelia Gene’s

Downtown's newest fine dining spot. Amelia Gene's, located next door to Caption by Hyatt, infuses French culinary into the menu. The menu offers unique small bites like Lemon Arancini, a variety of starters from Tuna Crudo to Wagyu Steak Tartare, pasta options, and dinner entrees like elk short rib (pictured above) and a $110 domestic Wagyu Filet.

Amelia Gene's: 255 S Front. St

Arnold’s Smokehouse

Arnold's Smokehouse is a vegetarian and vegan-friendly soul food and bbq restaurant. Despite tackling two different menus with two kitchens, Arnold’s doesn’t skip out on any of the flavors. The menu features sandwiches like a fried oyster mushroom sandwich, flatbread pizzas, nachos, bowls, and pastas. The BBQ Fajita Nachos are a must for vegans or otherwise!

Arnold's Smokehouse: 2019 E Person Ave.

Belle Meade Social

A new contemporary spin on classics. The large family-run restaurant has something for everyone whether it’s a nice evening dinner, relaxed bites at the bar, or indulging in brunch. The honey whipped feta dip is their best seller and a great introduction to the menu.

Belle Meade Social: 518 Perkins Extd

Bog & Barley

Impressing us on all fronts, Bog & Barley is a top pick for favorite new restaurant in 2023. From the gorgeous yet cozy decor and traditional and flavorful food, Bog & Barley is a great addition to the culinary scene. We’re partial to the beer battered fish & chips and the duck fat french fries. The brunch menu is just as delightful with the buttermilk hush puppies and the Irish Benedict with added smoked salmon.

Bog & Barley: 6150 Poplar Ave. Ste. 124

Dos Hermanos Kitchen

Tucked inside Cossitt Library in Downtown, grab a bite for breakfast or lunch while checking out some books but we recommend making a visit either way (Taco Tuesday is a great start!). Also, get a lavender lemonade while you're at it -- you won't regret it. There's also coffee and pastries to enjoy. Chef Eli, of Sage, is behind this spot so you know it's going to be good.

Dos Hermanos: 33 S Front St.

The Garden Brunch Cafe

The newest brunch spot located in downtown. They're only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but this spot is the perfect cozy cuisine to fuel your weekend. We recommend the Bananas Foster and Salmon Cakes.

The Garden Brunch Cafe: 492 S Main St

Hive Bagel & Deli

Downtown now has a NY style bagel-dedicated shop with the opening of Hive. Hive offers single bagels in addition to bagel sandwiches, pastries, salads, coffee, and more. We recommend the Bagel & Lox.

Hive Bagel & Deli: 276 S Front St.

The Lobbyist

The Lobbyist was one of the first restaurants to open in 2023 and remains a favorite. Located in The Chisca in downtown from Chef Jimmy Gentry, the menu is all about using natural and local ingredients to bring out extraordinary flavors. The only place that has made us excited to eat veggies. The corned mash has to be included in every order.

The Lobbyist: 272 S Main St.

Momma’s

Not a new restaurant per se but it is newly reopened after nearly two years of being closed. During the closure, Momma's was completely remodeled including a huge and nice patio expansion. The menu favorites are all back plus many new menu items. I recommend the Firebird Chicken Sandwich and the Big "M" burger with some deviled eggs to start. Read our blog about its reopening.

Momma's: 855 Kentucky St.

Options

You have lots of options at Options which offers comfort food with a Memphis vibe. This new spot in Cordova offers wings, burgers like they're "over the top" double bacon cheeseburger, phillys, bossed up fries drenched in their signature Options sauce, and more. Want to get the full taste of this new spot? Opt for the big sample box. Here's a big bonus: they're open late-late on the weekends.

Options: 7940 Fischer Steel Rd.

Petals of a Peony

Memphis now has an authentic Sichuan restaurant to rave reviews. Keep in mind that Sichuan food packs some heat! The whole menu is a hit from the spicy dumplings, peony fried chicken, and mapo tofu.

Petals of a Peony: 1250 N Germantown Pkwy

Perch 74 Bistro

Ditch boring breakfasts and lunches and head to Perch 74 Bistro for an elevated experience. Their menu includes chicken and waffles, raw juices, strawberry field salads, and more.

Perch 74 Bistro: 813 Ridge Lake Blvd

The Public Bistro

Cooper-Young’s newest restaurant is described as if “Huey’s and Houston’s had a baby” meaning it’s the best of both worlds. The Public Bistro menu is filled with both casual and high-end dining options from sandwiches to short ribs. Ordering an icebreaker cocktail is also a must! Read our full blog on The Public Bistro.

The Public Bistro: 937 Cooper St.

Subarashi

What was this list missing so far? A new sushi spot. Subarashi, located on Highland St., not only offers sushi but they’re even better known for their poke bowls and ramen. Three favorite food groups for us. No matter what you opt for, be sure to begin your meal with their Taiwanese popcorn chicken.

Subarashi: 521 S Highland St.

Wingman

You can guess what this new restaurant is all about by its name but Wingman says they're not just a regular wing spot. They offer 10 specialty sauces inspired by different cultures from all over the world. They take some of the traditional Memphis flavors like Honey Gold and Lemon Pepper and add a special twist to it. Although they're a wing spot -- the chicken sandwich is incredibly good.

Wingman: 143 Madison Ave.
