New Memphis Restaurants, Bars, and Coffee

Petals of a Peony

This restaurant dedicated to serving Chengdu Sichuan, spicy traditional Chinese food, just expanded with its second location in Overton Square at the former Paulette's space. There's a reason that within the first year of opening their Cordova location, that they're already expanded–it's so good! The spicy pork (or chicken) dumplings, Dandan noodles, and Peony fried chicken are a must-orders. I am obsessed!  A fun thing to point out is that this is a perfect spot for big groups. They have fun rotating tables for groups to share food at.

Petals of a Peony: 2110 Madison Ave.

Good Groceries Market & Cafe

The owners behind Good Groceries Mobile Diner food truck opened Good Groceries Market & Cafe in Cooper-Young. They offer a variety of vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and keto options. Check out their menu here.

Maroon Brew Co.

Collierville has its first brewup! Maroon Brew Co., a woman-owned and woman-brewed brewery, opened in the old Thomas Meat and Seafood Market. The brewery represents Collierville with its name being a nod to Collierville School’s primary color to beer names like Gazebo Golden Ale and West Powell Hazy IPA. It’s also a family-friendly spot with a dedicated kid’s area. Hungry too? They offer a food menu with gourmet hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, and more. Check it out for yourself via our Instagram reel.

Nashoba

inside Nashoba bar with view of the bar and numerous TVs

Sports bar meets live music venue at this new Collierville spot at Carriage Crossing. Nashoba has a great outdoor patio with a huge TV plus dozens more inside so there’s no missing any games. A separate room has a live music stage with cool round tables. I stopped in for the happy hour and tried their basic burger for $7 and house chips & dip for $4. Both were delicious and the burger was more generous than I thought it would be. Nashoba offers a lunch menu, dinner menu, and late night menu for food.

Nashoba: 4600 Merchants Park Circle Suite 111, Collierville, TN 38017

Highly recommend the Big Memphis Energy protein smoothie and Good Earth caprese panini. We're big fans of being able to eat something healthy without having to pay a high cost for it. Sweet Musings Bakery & Cafe: 1890 N Germantown PKWY Suite 99, Cordova, TN 38106

Tekila Modern Mexican

margarita and fried avocado fries

This steakhouse with a Mexican culinary twist has come to Memphis. Their first steakhouse can be found in Southaven at Silo Square. The Memphis location takes over the former Nineteenth Century Club and does a great job of honoring the historical space. Our favorite part is how the mixologists bring a bar cart to your table to make your cocktails. Try the prickly pear margarita! Take a look inside with our reel.

Tekila Modern Mexican: 1443 Union Ave.

Biscuits & Jam | Downtown

This beloved breakfast, brunch and lunch spot in Bartlett just expanded with their social location at Hotel Indigo in downtown and we are thrilled for it! Come for their delicious biscuits and fried green tomatoes and stay for their mimosas and cocktails. They may have the most mimosa combinations in the city.

Biscuits & Jam: 24 N. BB King Blvd

Madison Tavern

What was formerly Local on the Square is now Madison Tavern. New owner, new name, same great location. The new owner is also the owner of Local on Main Street in downtown. The menu features sandwiches like a barbacoa grilled cheese and tavern burger and entrees like chicken parmesan and steak kabobs.

Madison Tavern: 2126 Madison Ave.

JEM Dining

patio and exterior of JEM Dining

This new Edge District restaurant aims to take elevated fine dining and make it approachable. We got a taste of this new spot and wrote about in a blog here. With seasonal ingredients, you can expect the menu to always be fresh and tasty. We loved the crab and gulf shrimp dip, homemade gnocchi, kimchi arancini, and more. Go inside in our new reel.

JEM Dining: 644 Madison Ave.

Zio Matto Gelato

Zio Matto Gelato held up at shop

Memphis' newest gelato shop can be found in South Main at Central Station Hotel. The shop offers 14 different gelato flavors—including a dairy-free option! Don’t know where to start? Mary's Bar of Tropical Escapism

cocktail in parrot shaped glass

From the creators of Cameo Bar, comes Mary's Bar of Tropical Escapism or Mary's B.O.T.E for short. This tiki-inspired cocktail bar in Midtown is decked out in tropical vibes from the decor to the festive glassware. There are so many cocktails to try--many coming in different themed glassware. Hungry? They have small bites too! We were super impressed with the pizza. Check out our reel!

Rock'n Dough Pizza + Brewery

calzone on platter

The newest location of Rock'n Dough Pizza is now open in the Edge District. This spot is known for their pizzas and craft beer. The Edge District location offers a patio, bar, and duckpin bowling lanes. We love the garage doors that open on good weather days. We turned our pizza into a calzone which was delicious. The cheesy tots are also a must-order. Check them out in our reel!

Rock'n Dough: 704 Madison Ave.

Mande Dibi West African BBQ Grill

mande dibi food spread

From the same owners as Bala's Bistro, Mande Dibi brings all the traditional flavors of West African cuisine to Memphis. At this point, I'm considered a regular, because I can't get enough. The plantains, jollof rice, oxtail, lamb, beef patties-- I would eat there every day if I could. Check them out in our reel!

Mande Dibi West African BBQ Grill: 6825 Winchester Rd Suite D

Sen Treng Restaurant

lemongrass tofu

This is some of the best food news we can deliver. The Pho Binh legacy lives on! Sen Trang Restaurant reopened in the former Pho Binh location with the menu from the beloved spot. The lemongrass tofu and curry tofu still taste amazing as does the egg drop soup! Whether they'll also offer a lunch buffet is unknown at this time. Check them out in our reel.

Sen Trang Restaurant: 1615 Madison Ave.

Evergreen Grill

evergreen grill sandwich and fries

Evergreen is back open and serving up all the good comfort food. They're currently open for dinner only, lunch hours coming soon! I ordered the Honey Gold Chicken Sandwich and Evergreen fries (I'm drooling thinking about it). I can't wait to go back because I have my eyes on the Patty Melt and Crispy Cauliflower. Check them out in our reel.

Evergreen Grill: 212 N Evergreen St.

Kitchen Laurel

Kitchen Laurel has taken over what was once the location of Farm and Fig in Cooper-Young. Chef Kevin Sullivan, formerly of Tsunami, opened up his own spot with his wife. This spot JUST opened so we haven't had an opportunity to try it but the menu will focus on serving breakfast and southern comfort food. They open early at 7 a.m. and stay open through lunch.

Kitchen Laurel: 800 Cooper St.

Davinchi's Restaurant and Lounge

davinchis food

In the former spot of Pearl's Oyster House, Davinchi's is one of the hottest restaurants on South Main. Their menu features all the seafood favorites from chargrilled oysters to fried catfish. Kinfolk Country Kitchen

bacon egg and cheese biscuit, grits, and tiriamsu

What started as a pop up that grew quite popular thanks to their delicious biscuit sandwiches is now its own restaurant in Harbor Town. Official dates haven't been announced yet but it's coming very, very soon. The fried chicken sandwich is an absolute must-order as is the moon pie tiramisu. Honestly, just order the whole menu. It's all good. Check them out in our reel.

Kinfolk Country Kitchen: 111 Harbor Town Sq.

Front Street Deli

tomato bread sandwich with Mac n cheese

After a big renovation, Front Street Deli is finally open again. Front Street Deli no longer acts as a shrine to Tom Cruise with memorabilia and themed-sandwiches, but does still offer some great sandwich options--and breakfast too! Swing by for some of their signature tomato bread. Check them out in our reel.

Front Street Deli: 77 S Front St.

Louis Connelly's Bar for Fun Times and Friendship

bar light up with neon lights at Louis Connelly's

It's a mouthful but with a name like that, how can you not be excited for this new bar? Located in the former The Printer's Alley (RIP) location. The bar keeps the dive bar feel just with an upgrade. I popped in quickly one night and was impressed with the large beer list. I'll be back soon to try out the food. The smashburger allegedly is great.

Louis Connelly's: 322 S Cleveland St.

This beloved charcuterie spot isn't new but their location is! You can now find Feast & Graze's artisanal lunches at the Brooks Museum. There's no admission required to go inside the museum to visit their cafe. A new storefront is coming soon to Poplar Plaza too. Read our previous blog on Feast & Graze here.

Feast & Graze: 1934 Poplar Ave.

Jack Brown's Beer and Burger Joint

jack brown's restaurant inside

Although a chain expansion into Memphis, people are very excited for Jack Brown's. Located in Midtown, near Railgarten, Jack Brown's does two things very well: beer and burgers. The beer options are seemingly endless and the burgers are 100% American Waygu beef. My first visit I tried the Cobra Kai burger topped with cream cheese, pickled jalapeños, and jalapeño jelly. It was delicious. The sauce for fries alone will keep me coming back. Check out our Instagram reel feature here.

Jack Brown's: 2198 Central Ave.

Smurfey's Smokehouse, Downtown

four meals from smurfey's from loaded baked potatoes, fries, and sandwiches

After 14 years as a food truck, Smurfey's Smokehouse has expanded to a brick and mortar. The storefront, located in downtown, will operate as a ghost kitchen where people can order online or in-person to take their meals to go.  Smurfey's is known for their loaded up potatoes, fries, nachos, and sandwiches. Soon they'll also offer breakfast too. Check out our Instagram reel here.

Smurfey's Smokehouse: 149 Madison Ave

Congregation Coffee, Germantown

Credit: IG:@Congregationcoffee

This new coffeeshop in Germantown pays homage to the space it sits in. Once the site of a church, the shop is named in that memory. The new building is open, spacious, and resembles a church from the exterior with little nods inside. It's so new we're still waiting to get a peak at their menu as they're in the soft opening stages.

Congregation Coffee: 3060 Forest Hill Irene Rd

Shroomlicious Meals, Crosstown

After starting out a few years back with pop-ups, Shroomlicious Meals has found a permanent home in the Crosstown neighborhood. Schroomlicious is an all vegan story and like the name suggests -- mushrooms are a speciality in their menu items from the mushroom wings, fried catfish sandwich (made with mushrooms), mushroom burgers, and more.

Located at Saddle Creek, Local Lime is a fresh cali-mix restaurant where margaritas and tacos are a key menu focal point. The menu and beautiful restaurant space is an elevated experience compared to your favorite Mexican restaurant. Start out with a fun salsa flight.

This new bakery in Bartlett brings all the cuteness with its space and treat. The macarons, pastries, croissants, and more are almost too cute to eat. They also offer coffee and matcha.

The Sift Bakery: 5788 Stage Road Ste 1

Flame Ramen

bowl of ramen from flame ramen

Flame Ramen opened a second location in the heart of downtown. The ramen-focused menu also features yakisoba noodles, donburi rice bowls, gyoza, baos, and more. I ordered the Miso Tonkotsu ramen with pork belly, scallions, and Ajitsuke Tamago, and mushrooms and it was delicious. I'm a big fan of the individual seating spots for those having a solo lunch.

Flame Ramen: 61 S. Second St.

Plant Based Heat

black oyster mushroom burger

This all-vegan comfort food restaurant also added a second location in downtown. Plant Based Heat got its start on Highland St. in 2021 to much success. This has all your typical fair but vegan: burgers, wings, vegan Mac bowls, jackfruit bbq nachos, po boy sandwiches, and so much more. There's a kid's menu too. Even if you're not vegan, the menu looks good and guilt-free. I'll be giving this a try very soon!

Plant Based Heat: 363 S. Front St.

Another Sip Cafe

pastries on display in coffee shop

Another new coffee shop in downtown -- woohoo! Another Sip is locally owned and located in the front of Canopy Hotel, across from The Peabody. The menu features premium expresso, drip, and pour-over specialty coffee, latte menu, cold brew and nitro coffee, milkshakes, and premium desserts with food items throughout the day.

Another Sip Cafe: 164 Union Ave.

Black Lodge has everything and if you haven't been yet -- consider this your easy invitation to go. Masquerade is a new upscale cocktail bar with small bites concept in the movie rental store that doubles as one of the most fun event venues.

Masquerade at Black Lodge: 405 N Cleveland St.

The Public Bistro

deviled eggs and fried goat cheese apps

Cooper-Young’s newest restaurant is described as if “Huey’s and Houston’s had a baby” meaning it’s the best of both worlds. The Public Bistro menu is filled with both casual and high-end dining options from sandwiches to short ribs. Ordering an icebreaker cocktail is also a must! Read our full blog on The Public Bistro.

The Public Bistro: 937 Cooper St.

Lily's Bakery and Catering

The menu offers unique small bites like Lemon Arancini, a variety of starters from Tuna Crudo to Wagyu Steak Tartar, pasta options, and dinner entrees like elk short rib (pictured above) and a $110 domestic Wagyu Filet.

Amelia Gene's: 255 S Front. St

The Cats Cottage

This spot is for our cat lovers. The Cats Cottage is a Latina-owned cat-themed coffee shop. The pastries look like cute little kitties -- including cat donuts! The menu also features a variety of coffee from traditional pours to flavors like smores and caramel biscat. There's also smoothies, boba, and teas.

David Grisanti's On Main

The Grisanti's go way back in the Memphis food scene --1909 to be exact! That's when Rinaldo Grisanti opened a market shortly after immigrating to Memphis from Italy. David Grisanti ran his restaurant for the last five years in the Sheffield Antique Mall before moving it now to Collierville town square. The menu boasts Italian favorites: pasta, pizza, and more.

David Grisanti's On Main: 148 North Main, Collierville, TN

Sweet Aroma

Sweet Aroma has found a new home in the Broad Ave. Arts District. Looking for a savory Southern sweet dish? This is your grab-and-go spot. Specializing in homemade cakes, their menu changes routinely but features delicious treats such as strawberry crunch cake, sweet potato poundcake, pecan caramel chocolate chip cookies, dessert jars, and more.

Los Comales

The popular Mexican restaurant expanded to the Edge District -- not too far from their Madison Ave. location. Just down the street to be exact. It's a the Stop 345 building. Dos Hermanos Kitchen

Tucked inside Cossitt Library in Downtown, grab a bite for breakfast or lunch while checking out some books but we recommend making a visit either way (Taco Tuesday is a great start!). Also, get a lavender lemonade while you're at it -- you won't regret it. There's also coffee and pastries to enjoy. Chef Eli, of Safe, is behind this spot so you know it's going to be good!

Dos Hermanos: 33 S Front St.

Belltower Coffee at Shelby Farms Park

Your mornings walking around Shelby Farms will be that much better enjoying a coffee and treat from Belltower. The coffee shop that got its start on Highland has now opened a second location at the park. Find it inside the Shelby Farms Welcome Center, right by the lake.

Belltower Coffee: 6903 Great View Dr N

SOB in Collierville

It's not exactly south of Beale Street but EOB doesn't have the same ring to it. SOB has opened its third location -- this time in Collierville. The white exterior and modern sleek interior is just *chef's kiss*. I love the downtown location but this may be the best looking one yet. It appears that you'll be able to enjoy your same favorites at this spot as the other two locations.

The next evolution of cheese is here in Memphis. SriMu offers artisanally crafted NOT cheeses. Their cheese products are plant-based allowing paleo, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free to enjoy. This spot, which can be found inside Crosstown Concourse, will also operate as a wine cafe.

SriMu: 1350 Concourse Ave.

Hive Bagel & Deli

Downtown now has a NY style bagel-dedicated shop with the opening of Hive. You don't realize how much you were missing a spot you never had until it opens. Hive offers single bagels (at a good price may I add) in addition to bagel sandwiches, pastries, salads, coffee, and more. I recommend the Bagel & Lox -- which I once ate three days in a row.

Hive Bagel & Deli: 276 S Front St.

Muggin Coffeehouse

Muggin Coffeehouse made a delicious name for itself from their first location in Whitehaven. Their success propelled to this second location in downtown's Uptown neighborhood and we're thrilled to have them now close to our office. Their hot and cold mix of coffees rep Memphis and we love their best-seller Zippin Pippin iced frap.

Muggin Coffeehouse #2: 606 N Main St.

Options

You have lots of options at Options which offers comfort food with a Memphis vibe. This new spot in Cordova offers wings, burgers like they're "over the top" double bacon cheeseburger, phillys, bossed up fries drenched in their signature Options sauce, and more. Want to get the full taste of this new spot? Opt for the big sample box. Here's a big bonus: they're open late-late on the weekends!

Options: 7940 Fischer Steel Rd.

Elwood's Shack

The always-a-favorite Elwood's Shack has now opened a second location. This second location is larger and has a slightly different menu but many of the same favorites as the OG location. It, too, will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A few new options include a fried chicken sandwich (Tiger Bleu Chicken Sandwich), milkshakes and mocktails, and an açaí bowl.

Elwood's Shack #2: 4040 Park Ave

Sugar Ghost

This month has been all about expansions. Sugar Ghost is another shop opening their second location after the success of their Broad Ave. spot. The second location, in Germantown, will offer the same homemade ice cream, handcrafted bubble teas, and adorable interior. We're overdue for a visit and this new fall menu with a Pumpkin Oreo Cheesecake is calling our name. Their banana pudding ice cream is still one of my favorites.

Sugar Ghost #2: 9077 Poplar Ave

Wingman

You can guess what this new restaurant is all about by its name but Wingman says they're not just a regular wing spot. They offer 10 speciality sauces inspired by different cultures from all over the world. They take some of the traditional Memphis flavors like Honey Gold and Lemon Pepper and add a special twist to it. Although they're a wing spot -- the chicken sandwiches look incredibly tempting.

Wingman: 143 Madison Ave.

Momma's

Not a new restaurant per se but it is newly reopened after nearly two years of being closed. During the closure, Momma's completely remodeled including a huge and nice patio expansion. The menu favorites are all back plus some new menu items. I recommend the Firebird Chicken Sandwich and the Big "M" burger with some deviled eggs to start. Read our blog about its reopening.

Momma's: 855 Kentucky St.

Petals of A Peony

Memphis now has an authentic Sichuan restaurant to rave reviews. To be honest, I'm a little traumatized by going to my first Sichuan restaurant in NYC. I was not prepared for the heat those meals would be packing. I admit I am a wuss but that's all to say, if your dish has a lot of red in it. Don't take the biggest bite you can manage.

Petals of a Peony: 1250 N Germantown Pkwy

Wonky's Not So Famous Treats

Located next door to Alcenia's, this charming nautical-themed interior specializes in sorbet, juices, candies, and unique sweets. They have so many different treats to choose from including Taiyaki fish shaped waffles cone. Wonky's is only open on the weekends so plan your visit in advance!

Wonky's: 315 North Main Street

Vice & Virtue, Paper Plate Pavilion

With the opening of the new Tom Lee Park comes two permanent meal options. Vice & Virtue coffee shop and Paper Plate Pavilion both have their own buildings in the park. Vice & Virtue will serve up their coffee, pastries, and more. Paper Plate Pavilion was first a food truck and offers savory bites. I loved the brisket mac!

New Asia

One of our favorite food trucks now has a restaurant space to call its own. Mem Dim Sum has taken over New Asia in Germantown.  An updated menu is on its way but in the meantime, enjoy the deliciousness of the Mem Dim Sum menu. We love the soup dumplings!

New Asia: 2075 Exeter Rd Suite 90 Germantown, TN 38138

Elise Dessert Co.

There's a good chance you've seen Elise Dessert Company's banana pudding at your local shopping spot. You can continue buying it there or make a visit to their new storefront for even more pudding flavors like strawberry caramel banana. She also makes key lime pie at the store.

Elise Dessert Co.: 3536 Walker Ave.

Jeremiah's Italian Ice

There's a new sweet spot to cool off in town. Jeremiah's Italian Ice opened their first Memphis location and from the bright green and red exterior -- it's hard to miss. They serve authentic Italian Ice with creamy ice cream and Gelati.

Jeremiah's Italian Ice: 3717 Summer Ave.

Promise Restaurant

Promise

The new soul food spot recently opened in South Main at the former Grecian Gourmet Kitchen location. The family run restaurant uses handed down recipes. Menu is limited currently but expect it to expand soon. Currently menu had fried catfish, chicken with dressing, and chitterlings. Each dish comes with two sides. We recommend the sweet potatoes, spaghetti, and Mac n cheese sides! Give them some time to get settled. They're currently waiting on liquor license.

Promise: 412 S. Main St.

Pretty Taco

"They're not Mexican tacos, they're Memphis Tacos!" Try out their BBQ Taco that has Central BBQ's pulled pork and signature slaw and Soulburger Taco which is Earnestine & Hazel's SoulBurger with sautéed onions and cheese! I promise you'll be a huge fan. The drinks are always flowing with delicious margaritas and Patron tower. The space filled with lots of photo ops (I'm a sucker for neon signs.)

Pretty Taco: 265 S. Front St.

We're really excited to give this spot a try. Arnold's Smokehouse is a vegetarian and vegan-friendly soul food and bbq restaurant. The menu features sandwiches like a fried oyster mushroom sandwich, flatbread pizzas, nachos, bowls, and pastas. The BBQ Fajita Nachos are calling our name!

About the Author

Hello! I'm Jalyn Souchek, the Director of Content for I Love Memphis Blog! I love calling the 901 home. When I'm not running the blog you can find me cheering on the Grizzlies, at a concert, exploring a new restaurant or kicking back at one of our breweries. I hope you'll love experiencing Memphis with me.

Build your perfect Memphis meal:

I love to eat so if I were to have only one meal left.. I’m going all out. I’d start with an app of Gumbo Fries from Blue City Cafe or Bayou Fries from Chef Tam, wings from Good Fortune or Central’s (honey gold and Jamaican Jerk), potato salad from Fat Larry’s, side of bbq spaghetti from Bar-B-Q Shop, and fried okra from Soul Fish. All paired with a Beale Street Brewing Space Age Sippin’.

Your most memorable Memphis moment:

College GameDay on Beale Street. That was an electric and perfect morning. I was still working in news then and was able to take it in up close and on the stage at some points. The fun and joy of everyone down there that morning is unbeatable.
