Memphis Beat Returns, Rhodes Students Get USA Today Love, and a Bonus Ride on the Mystery Train

365 Memphians - Cassius Watkins
When I walked out of the press room at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, security guard Cassius Watkins asked if I would take his picture. So, here he is, taking a break from checking press credentials to flash a peace sign. In other news: -Everyone's favorite Memphis-themed cop show, "Memphis Beat" is returning to TNT this summer, but not without a few changes. Last year, locals were pretty peeved about the show not only being filmed in New Orleans, but feeling like New Orleans (and about the ham-fisted portrayal of cop/Elvis impersonator Dwight). This time around, the cast (who was similarly upset about things) say that the show is more true to Memphis, less ridiculous, and way less cliche. - If you love the Memphis Mystery Train (my WEVL show), there's going to be bonus Friday afternoon installment every week in June. I'm filling in for another DJ from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Fridays - same format, same rock'n'roll, same awkward talking. Listen at 89.9 FM or wevl.org. - Congrats to the Rhodes College Bonner Scholars - the red-shoe wearing students who commit to four years of volunteer service were featured on the USA Today College Blog.
