A Voodoo Shrine, Some Loser Clothes and a Closing
The shrine at Tater Red's on Beale St.
Memphis, Tenn.
In other news:
- "Losers Take All" is a feature film about a sell-out 80's band that's been shooting in Memphis for the past month or so. (You've probably seen the signs around Midtown that say "Losers this way" and "Losers Basecamp".) Filming has wrapped, and tomorrow night, a ton of the awesome 80's clothes that were used in the film will be for sale. The sale is from 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. at 510 S. Main.
- Midtown coffee shop / bar / nightclub Quetzal is closing its doors after six years in business. It was the second Quetzal in the US (the other is in San Fransisco), and it's somewhat confused concept and expensive drinks never quite caught on in Memphis. Regardless, it'll be missed.

I've seen a lot of Vodou altars in my time, but never one with a Fed Ex plane displayed. That's awesome!
If the club has a Voodoo shrine, then I suppose the top-hatted gent on their sign (and on my t-shirt) doesn't just look like Gede, but really is meant to be Gede. That's double awesome!

I drove by Quetzal twice this Sunday (4/10/2011) and the sign was lit up and people were inside. Are they open again or was that some kind of fluke? I loved that place--it would be wonderful if it opened up again.

There was a weird voodoo altar behind the bar at Barrister's downtown, it had a shrunken head and the guys that worked there even had candles burning during music shows.
