Pianos are rock'n'roll, too.
Watchpaper is a trio whose sound is a mixture of piano pop, rockabilly, and slow-burning acoustic rock. Since they started playing around town in January of 2010, they've earned comparisons to Ben Folds and Elliot Smith.
The songwriting duties are shared by frontmen Ben Powers on piano and bassist Blaine Lloyd. Their mission is simple: "We just like to write songs that convey real emotion and try to do so in a unique way with catchy melodies," Ben told me.
Watchpaper's next show is June 25th at Otherlands Coffee Bar.
