Fast Japanese Cuisine At Tokyo Grill

Update 2020: Tokyo Grill has two Memphis-area locations, one in Midtown at 1400 Poplar Avenue in the Crosstown neighborhood and one in East Memphis at 4978 Park Ave.
Tokyo Grill is walking the same fast-casual line as places like Panera or Chipotle—better than fast food, but more casual and affordable than other Japanese restaurants in town. They've got a nice dining room, but their primary business seems to be take out.

Las Tortugas Deli Mexicana Brings Mexico City to Memphis

If you're tired of your usual Tex-Mex spot, don't need a bucket of queso today, and want to try some fresh, tasty Mexican food "just like you would find in Mexico City", then Las Tortugas Deli Mexicana is the place for you. Let's get a few things out of the way first: chef and owner Pepe Magallanes is not messing around, and it's his way or the highway.

Eating Old School at Coletta's Restaurant

Walking into the original Coletta's Italian Restaurant on South Parkway is like walking back in time, or maybe on to the set of a mob movie, in a good way.

Memphis Barbecue Pizza

Coletta's interior is perfectly old school. The restaurant has been open in Memphis since 1923, and they claim to have made the original barbecue pizza. If you've never tried barbecue pizza, bring a friend and try it at Coletta's. Their barbecue pizza has a thick crust, barbecue sauce, and is piled high with pork and cheese.

Grab a Slice At Memphis Pizza Cafe

One of the OG Memphis pizza parlors, Memphis Pizza Cafe remains one of my favorites in town. I love the thin, almost cracker-crisp crust and the consistency—every time I order a Cajun Chicken Supreme (no mushrooms, add feta), it tastes just and delicious as flavorful as always.

An Original Memphis Pizza Joint

Memphis Pizza Cafe has multiple locations, including Overton Square, Park Ave. in East Memphis, Germantown, and Collierville. In addition to pizza, which you can always order by the slice, there are salads, subs, calzones, and desserts.

Friday Lunch Date at Felicia Suzanne's

Memphis chef Felicia Willett is known for her high-quality twist on Southern Creole cuisine in a fine dining atmosphere. Her downtown restaurant is Felicia Suzanne's—for 2020, they're open for dine-in, curbside pickup, and patio dining in their gorgeous courtyard. The spot is mostly known for dinner, but she does offer a mean Friday lunch that's one of my favorite spots for a special end-of-week treat. On a recent rainy Friday, I Love Memphis intern Savannah and I went to check it out.
