The Majestic Grille is a deceptive little place. From the looks of it, it's an upscale, fancy, expensive kind of place, the kind you'd reserve for a special occasion.
In reality, it would be a mistake to only think of the Majestic that way. Yes, the restaurant - which is housed in one of Memphis' first movie houses -oozes class, but the menu is full of unpretentious classics like sandwiches, steaks and salads.
Give Thai a Try at Downtown's New Thai Bistro
It's a good time to review restaurants in Memphis. In the past week, the city has gained at least three new places that are worth trying.
I went to Thai Bistro's new downtown location for an early dinner last night.
Because we were there so early, my dinner buddy and I had the place to ourselves. Maybe it's because the restaurant just opened, but the atmosphere is a little weird. I think it's because there's nothing on the walls - no art, no posters, just lots of peachy paint and one giant mirror. There is a bar, but it's not set up yet because their liquor license hasn't kicked in yet.
Say Guten Tag to Mary's German Restaurant (Closed)
I've got some good news for those of you who still miss Erika's German Restaurant - there's another place in Memphis to get your schnitzel fix.
Mary's German Restaurant is in Collierville, but it's more than worth the drive if you've got a craving that can't be denied. A warning though - it's almost impossible to find if you're going off of Google Maps or Mapquest.
For Delicias Tapas, Go East
When I think about where to go for a big night out, I don't generally think about heading east. But, my nighttime plans may have to change a little bit now that East Tapas & Drinks is open.
While East is part of Wang's Mandarin House, it's housed in its own space in the storefront next to the Park Ave. location. Yes, it's a bar in a shopping center in East Memphis, but the important thing is that it doesn't have the sort of sad vibe that permeates so many other storefront watering holes.
Meals in Motion Brings East Memphis Restaurants to You
If, like me, you sit around wishing that Las Delicias would bring the tacos to you or that Ryu's spicy crab soup could magically show up at your house, then Meals in Motion could change your life.
Here's how it works: you look over the local restaurant offerings on the Meals in Motion website, decide what you want and call them. They go to the restaurant, pick up your order and bring it to your house.
