I owe this post to the awesome Memphis Facebook fan who suggested that I check out Spruce in East Memphis.

Apparently, the diner near the University of Memphis commonly known as the Chinese Sub Shop is actually called the Super Submarine Sandwich Shop. My mom (who used to eat there while she was a student at the U of M in the 1970s) calls it the Sub Wash Pub.

Two new (and very different) exhibits recently opened at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens.

Sometimes, I get all excited about having lunch at a place that seems like a relatively unknown spot, only to find out that it's far from unknown and I'm just apparently the last person to find out about it. I got to the Paradise Cafe in East Memphis around 12:45, expecting the lunch crowds to have finished their meals and returned to work. The small one-and-a-half story cafe was still packed, but it didn't take long after I placed my order at the counter to find an open table. Paradise Cafe specializes in light traditional sandwiches, salads and specialty sandwiches.

Opera Memphis is taking a break from performing at theaters around Memphis to bring things back home.

I stopped by Second Editions bookstore yesterday at the recommendation of  of Elizabeth Alley, who had just scored a massive world atlas there for $6.

One of my favorite places to pick up to-go sushi is at the BP station at the corner of Poplar and Ridgeway in East Memphis. Yes  - you read that right. There's a gas station in East Memphis that sells sushi.

At the suggestion of my friend Zach, I stopped by Comics and Collectibles in East Memphis this afternoon. The comic shop is located on Poplar Ave.
