Indie Memphis' 17th Annual Film Festival kicks off one week from today. From October 30 to November 2, Overton Square will host dozens of film screenings for movies of all genres, plus special events featuring filmmakers, actors, and musicians.
The Mid-South's largest Creaton Con, the Memphis Comic Expo, returns September 23-24, 2023. This family-friendly event is free for kids 12 and under.
This year promises to be the biggest event yet with over 120 comic artists, writers, artisans, voice actors, and big names like Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
"Humans of New York" is an incredibly popular online photography project started by a New Yorker named Brandon Stanton. The photoblog documents the every day lives and thoughts of people he meets on the street in New York City. We now have our own "Humans of Memphis" created and curated by recent college grad Kirstin Cheers.
Memphis rapper/hip-hip artist/emcee Knowledge Nick is on a roll. He's released four projects in three years, including his most recent album, "The New Memphis". Don't stereotype him for his genre or his age, though, because you won't hear "krunk" or "turnt up" on any of his albums. Not that he's against it - "everything has its lane" is something he likes to say - but a more message-based music is his personal style.
