365 Things to Do in Memphis #88: Get Your Flyer from a Fun Box

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means - in Memphis, it's Flyer day.

Our venerable local alt-weekly is deposited in wire racks and little green boxes all over the city on Wednesdays, packed with news, music listings and the most incomprehensible astrology readings.

This week, some of the Flyer's green boxes got makeovers. The Flyer gave 13 boxes to local artists for their first ever art box contest. They got back a set of brightly painted newsstands that are impossible to miss.

We're missing out on the best live music night in Memphis' blues clubs, when people pack tiny juke joints to hear authentic blues, R&B and soul music. Which is why I'm standing on my porch with my husband Mathew, waiting for local artist and tour guide Tad Pierson to pick us up in his pink 1955 Cadillac so that we can check out three clubs. Tad Pierson gave his first tour in 1989.
