Flyway Brewing expanding to Memphis

flyway draft

The North Little Rock brewery will take over the existing High Cotton Brewing Co. and adjacent Edge Alley. The plan is for Flyway to introduce new offerings while preserving and celebrating High Cotton's legacy--meaning you'll still be able to get some of your HC brews while enjoying Flyways. With the absorption of the Edge Alley space will allow them to serve up food and create a music venue activation inside. The ownership group behind City Silo will lead the expansion and oh, how we hope that means their delicious eats will be available downtown. Stay tuned for details on what they plan to serve food wise.

Cheesecake Comes Back to South Main

cheesecakes on display

The closing of Cheesecake Corner was a sad hit to South Main (don't worry you can still get it at Fannie Lou's on Tennessee St. but there is no dedicated shop for it). But! Sound Main will soon have a new cheesecake storefront when Crave Cheesecakes opens in the former Prima's location. Currently, the new cheesecake spot is operating with "soft opening" hours. I swung by on their first day and had a blueberry cheesecake (delicious). They also offer cheesecake cookies which I'll be trying next visit.

Sake vs. Tekila opening two Memphis locations

A post on Facebook spotted the signs up at a new Sake vs. Tekila in Cordova. There's currently a restaurant opened in Millington. The fashion restaurant specializes in sushi, tacos, and hibachi. According to What Now, a third location will open in Whitehaven at the former Rock N Roll Cafe. The Cordova location at 1250 N Germantown Pkwy formerly was Bonefish Grill.

El Mero Taco Owners win Guy's Grocery Games

We previously told you here, that El Mero Taco owners Jacob and Clarissa Dries were appearing on Food Network's Guy's Grocery Games on February 21st. We're glad to report that the duo won! Congrats El Mero Taco!

Muggin Coffeehouse closes Whitehaven location, focuses on Downtown spot

We're sad to report that Muggin' has made the difficult decision to close their Whitehaven location after a Starbucks opened nearby hurting business. A reminder of how important it is to support local. Thankfully, you can still support local and get their delicious coffee creations at their Uptown location--now with lunch! Check out our reel of the Uptown space when it first opened.

Cxffeeblack Wins Top Roaster Global Award

The world is now recognizing what we know here in Memphis--that Cxffeeblack is the best. Cxffeeblack just won "Most Notable Roaster" in the WORLD. The top roaster award was announced during the 15th Annual Sprudgie Awards presented by Spurge and Pacific Foods Barista Series.

Following the news, Cxffeeblack announced a new opportunity to invest in them and their efforts for a full built out of a roaster and cafe. Learn more here.

Speaking of Recent Awards.. Two Memphis Chefs on James Beard Semifinalists List

Two Memphians made the semifinalist list for the acclaimed James Beard Awards. Phillip Ashley Rix of Phillip Ashley Chocolates is up for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker and Daris Leatherwood, of Supper Club on Second, is up for Best Chef: Southeast. Winners will be announced on June 10th.

Three Memphis Restaurants Make Most Romantic List

OpenTable recently announced its Top 100 Romantic Restaurants in America for 2024 list with three Memphis restaurants making the cut: Flight Restaurant & Wine Bar, Itta Bena, and Porch & Parlor Prime Steakhouse. Only four Tennessee restaurants made the list meaning Memphis just about swept it up.

Front Street Deli Gets Close to Reopening

We're that much closer to Front Street Deli reopening. The space is finishing up a major renovation but the logos are back on the window which means we're getting closer! From a glance, the Tom Cruise decor is no more.

Petals of a Peony Expanding to Overton Square

Less than six months after opening its first location on Germantown Parkway, Petals of A Peony is expanding with a second restaurant in Overton Square. From the looks of the photo, the second spot is opening at 2110 Madison Ave., formerly Stanley BBQ. Petals of a Peony was Memphis' first entirely Sichuan restaurant when it opened in August, 2023. The expected opening date is this summer.

Felicia Suzanne’s Will Reopen in 2024

Countless times we have been asked when Felicia Suzanne's would open at its new South Main location. After a two year pause, construction for the new location is underway. Felicia herself has been documenting the progress of construction via her Instagram. The new location will be both a restaurant and retail shop with to-gos too.

Kinfolk Nears Opening Date

The excitement is real for Kinfolk's new permanent home. What started as a pop up that grew quite popular thanks to their delicious biscuit sandwiches, will soon open in Harbor Town. Official dates haven't been announced yet but it's coming very, very soon. So far they have teased over social media a delicious looking expansive menu from their biscuit sandwiches to pancakes and platters inspired by Waffle House -- but much better looking.

Tropical Tiki-Style Bar Coming to Cooper-Young

I have long loved Cameo on Union Ave. Ironically, across the street as the above mentioned. We are so lucky to live in a world where now the owners will be behind TWO bars. The next adventure is dubbed as Mary’s Bar of Tropical Escapism. Cameo has long done a Tropical Tuesday menu/experience prior to announcing the opening of this spot. The new spot is expected to open in February or March at 588 S. Cooper St.

Biscuits & Jams Location #2 Coming to Downtown

For downtowners who have lived vicariously through social posts from Biscuits & Jams Bartlett location, your time is coming. Biscuits & Jams announced they are expanding with a new location located at Indigo Hotel. They'll open at the former 3rd & Court restaurant and will also take over the basement lounge with plans to reopen it as a juke joint.

Mahogany's Mud Island Location Will Open Soon

Upscale southern cuisine with a dash of creole is coming to Mud Island. Mahogany's first location is inside Chickasaw Oaks Village and the second location will be known as Mahogany River Terrace. That portion of Mud Island, near the amphitheatre has long been vacant so it's great to see new life in the space. I've been inside and let me just say -- it looks amazing and the upstairs lounge is the icing on the cake. I can't wait to share more about this new location soon.

Davinchi’s Restaurant and Lounge to Open at Former Pearl's Location

If you've driven down South Main recently you may have spotted a small black sign added to the iconic red building that formerly housed Pearl's Oyster House. Word is a new oyster concept is coming to this location in Davinchi's Restaurant and Lounge. In addition seafood options, it'll also have a hookah lounge. Grand opening is expected to be soon.

Mugshots to Open Collierville Location

A lot of people tagged us in this news announcement so the excitement is real here with this one. The Mississippi-based restaurant who boasts the "best burger in Mississippi" bragging rights of the last 15 years, is opening a Collierville location. No official opening date but it's expected to open in early 2024.

Uptown Growth Continues with Incoming Groovy Gratitude

Really love the growth of food options in the Uptown neighborhood. "Sip to the rhythm of wellness and gratitude" with Groovy Gratitude, a smoothie and juice bar, opening in Uptown in Spring 2024. Once open, they'll offer smoothies, cold-pressed juices, and cleanses. Groovy Gratitude will follow the recent opening of Muggin' Coffeehouse's second location in Uptown.

High-end Mexican Restaurant to Open in Nineteenth Century Club

Tekila Modern Mexican got its start in Southaven at the newly developed Silo Square. I haven't been there yet but the building does look beautiful. It seems like this location has had its struggle so hopefully this will be a good match. It's unclear how much renovation of the space there will be but, according to DM, the owners were attracted to the historical elements of the building.

A Brewery is Coming to Collierville

The Collierville brewing scene gets a little confusing. When Maroon Brew Co. opens in Spring 2024, it won't be the first brewery in the town but will be the only one with an open taproom? Hook Point is technically Collierville and has retail hours to buy their beer there but is available for on-site drinking at Memphis' Ready Room. Anyways, Maroon Brew Co. is female-led that will be family-friendly and all about Collierville.

Build your perfect Memphis meal:

I love to eat so if I were to have only one meal left.. I’m going all out. I’d start with an app of Gumbo Fries from Blue City Cafe or Bayou Fries from Chef Tam, wings from Good Fortune or Central’s (honey gold and Jamaican Jerk), potato salad from Fat Larry’s, side of bbq spaghetti from Bar-B-Q Shop, and fried okra from Soul Fish. All paired with a Beale Street Brewing Space Age Sippin’.

Your most memorable Memphis moment:

College GameDay on Beale Street. That was an electric and perfect morning. I was still working in news then and was able to take it in up close and on the stage at some points. The fun and joy of everyone down there that morning is unbeatable.
