Here Are Five Memphis Food News To Know This Week:

Huey’s Breaks with Tradition with New Burger Offering

A decades-long rule has been broken at Huey’s. The rule they’re breaking? Do not press down on burgers while cooking them but you can’t make smash burgers without doing just that. Huey’s is breaking their rule to introduce the Huey's Smashburger -- two Certified Angus Beef patties smashed thin and juicy. I told yall smash burgers were having a moment and we can’t wait to try this newest option.

Cxffee Black Drops New Coffee Menu

There are new coffee concoctions to try at the AntiGentrification Cxffee Club. Now on the menu: a canned Gold brew (new recipe), Teddy Grahams (cold brew with your choice of cold foam flavor), Rose Gold Brew (new recipe), and Madvillain Matcha ( pineapple, okra water, and topo-chico matcha drink). Pull up, people! Bonus: Comeback Coffee also released a new summer menu and The Hub did too!

Move over chocolate covered strawberries because chocolate covered blackberries are back. Don’t worry you can get both still too (which you should). Dinstuhl’s has dipped blackberries, strawberries, grapes, and pineapples!

Caption by Hyatt Launches Food Truck Fridays

Beginning July 19th, Caption by Hyatt will host Food Truck Fridays bi-weekly from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with live music. The food truck will be at the Front Drive of the hotel with music in the Courtyard. For the first two Fridays (July 19 and August 2) will feature El Mero Taco with soulful tunes from Kevin ‘B.F.’ Burt, the 2018 International Blues Challenge Champion.

Try a Sandwich Flight at Knifebird Wine Bar

It’s a proven fact that drinks and food taste best served as a flight and this new sandwich flight at Knifebird is a fun addition. Knifebird is expanding their sandwich menu and that comes with mini versions of their new offerings. Sandwich offerings include a smoked prosciutto.L.T., candied jalapeno club, caprese deluxe, and more. Pair it with a wine flight, too!

Ghost River Brewing Adds New Taproom, Kitchen, and Stage

At their South Main taproom, Ghost River is growing! One of Memphis’ most OG breweries recently bought the building next door and remodeled it into an additional taproom with a full bar sponsored by Old Dominick and a new kitchen. Outside of the building, Ghost River added a live music stage and a huge TV screen above the stage for outdoor viewing. TBD on opening date for the inside space but it’s coming up soon!

Little Bettie Adds New Pizzas and Menu Items

A pickle pizza anyone? Some fun new pizza options have been added to the Little Bettie menu (Little Bettie can be found inside the downtown Wiseacre) like a Lil Chicken Picklin pizza with pickle brined chicken, mozzarella, ranch, pickled onions, hot sauce, and of–pickles or try a Louisiana cajun andouille inspired one or Yo Quiero Chorizo with salsa-style red sauce and chorizo. Additional food items include a heirloom tomato salad, spin dip, and savory popcorn. See the updated full menu here.

Good Fortune to Offer a Special Brunch

On July 21, Good Fortune is hosting a Sunday brunch. Last time they had a brunch was a huge hit that they sold out so expect it to be busy. Doors will open at 10:45 a.m. that day through 2 p.m. The menu will be dropped soon. Fingers crossed this becomes a Sunday staple. Good Fortune doesn't offer reservations so get there early!

Smurfey’s Brick-and-Mortar Will Shift to Breakfast Focus

Earlier this year, Smurfey’s Smokehouse, the popular food truck, opened a storefront on Madison Ave. offering lunch and breakfast. They still have the food truck out and about too. Starting July 10, Smurfey’s Smokehouse will be Smurfey’s Breakfast. Check Smurfey's out on Instagram here.

Swamp Bar Introduces Evening Service Industry Brunch

Brunch isn’t for the mornings at Swamp Bar. On Sundays, Swamp Bar will offer an evening brunch menu from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. then it switches to the late night menu until midnight. Swamp Bar already offers a happy hour (a rather stellar one) from 5-8 p.m. but service industry workers will get happy hour pricing all night long.

Tom Lee Park Has A New Food Vendor

Tom Lee Park’s renovation is approaching its one year anniversary and within that first year a lot has changed where food is concerned. The newest vendor to make a home at the park is Hi Neighbor Cafe. On the menu will be hot dogs, bratwurst, pretzels, cookies, chips plus drinks like beer, coffee, soda, and more. You can find them near the Sunset Canopy from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Beck & Call Launches Pacific-Meets-Memphis Dinner Menu

Downtown’s sole waterfront rooftop is working to enhance their food options. This new Pacific/Memphis menu is inspired by Area Executive Chef Pavy Keomaniboth’s Laotian and Thai heritage. Pepper Crusted Ahi Tuna, Hawaiian Style Kalbi Short Ribs and Teriyaki Beef Sliders are just a few of the new menu items. Check out the new menu here. They also crafted a pre-fixe menu for select shows playing at the Orpheum (i.e. Mamma Mia on July 23-28). The menu is offered from 4-7pm, just in time for diners to catch their show.

Greenhaus Partners With Comeback Coffee For Dreamy Seating Option

Picture this... You’re sitting in a greenhouse sippin’ on your favorite coffee. Greenhaus Memphis, formerly named Golden Hour, has refigured their greenhouse to provide seating for nextdoor patrons of Comeback Coffee. The result is the most dreamiest of spaces. Sitting in this space is my kind of self care. Both Comeback and Greenhaus, which share a wall, added an entry point between both spaces to make them better connected. After you enjoy the space, be sure to browse their selection of indoor plants and gifts.

Louis Connelly’s Opens For Lunch

I’ve heard great things about the food, especially that smash burger, at Louis Connelly’s Bar For Fun Times & Friendships (or LCBFFT&F as I like to say). Now, you have more opportunities to try it with their expanded lunch and new menu. Check out the full menu here. Louis Connelly’s is a relatively new bar located at the former Printer’s Alley location.

Biscuits & Jams Downtown Location Now Serves Cocktails, Mimosas, Etc.

The wait time for the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission for those liquor licenses is now joke. Alas, thankfully the wait is over finally for Biscuits & Jams downtown location because what's brunch without a mimosa? The new location at Indigo Hotel will also offer mimosa flights, bloody mary's, and a limited cocktail menu. The full cocktail list will be ready to go late next week.

Bain Barbecue Adds Smash Burgers to the Mix

I am SALIVATING writing this because that's how good these smash burgers at Bain Barbecue in Cooper-Young look. (Smash burgers are having a moment, aren't they?) The addition is part of a larger "anytime menu" that allows Bains to stay open later for dinner and now Tuesdays. Other new menu items includes smokafried wings, loaded nachos, and beef fat fry basket. Also, just want to shout out that Bains has been killing it on social lately. Highly recommend checking out their Instagram. This "life's too short for just pulled pork" video is a great start.

Kellie's and Cannabis Restaurant Coming Soon?

Two new restaurant openings are on the horizon in Memphis: a new deli and a cannabis-infused spot. Let's start with the aforementioned because that's a head scratcher. How is this possible in a state that hasn't legalized marijuana use? Tennessee has legalized the cultivation of hemp and defined hemp as Cannabis sativa containing less than 0.3% THC. As reported by the Memphis Flyer, Buds & Brews is set to open in the former Bounty on Broad location. The restaurant will offer infused condiment sauces with "Tennessee-grown-and-extracted hemp-derived THC" and cannabis-infused cocktails, beers, and desserts. Buds & Brews opened first in Nashville in 2022 with a second location on the way there. Back to the new deli mention. Kellie's Deli will open in the former River City Market location in South Main according to coming soon banners that were strung up this week.

It won't let you embed their Instagram posts but check out Buds & Brews here for a preview of what's to come.

Comeback Coffee Adds Canned Sparkling Waters

Canned sparkling waters is the latest product from Comeback Coffee and the branding is impeccably clean. Memphis has the best water so why not can it? Comeback Coffee is donating a percentage of sales from the new canned water line to the Protect Our Aquifer who works to protect, conserve, and preserve the Memphis Sand Aquifer. Available in-store and online.

Calzones Now On The Menu At Aldo’s

Aldo’s Pizza Pies recently introduced calzones to their menu. Diners can order a housemade calzone with three toppings and Aldo's 4 Cheese Blend, basil, ricotta, garlic & oil starting at $13. Like with their pizzas, there is a build-your-own option that allows you to choose between standard or premium toppings. Here’s their menu to check it out.

Silly Goose Isn’t Just About The Cocktails Now With Added Coffee Menu

No longer just a cocktail bar, The Silly Goose is staying open late and waking up early. This bar now doubles as a coffee shop. It has all the classic coffee creations you’d need plus affogatos, honey compana, and more. Check out the menu here. The coffee shop hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

BarWare Launches A Pup Patio Menu

This is a fun one! It can sometimes be hard to find dog-friendly patios. At BarWare, they’re taking extra steps to include your furry friends. Consider this patio super dog-friendly with the introduction of their pup patio menu which includes complimentary iced water bowl and four pup-approved treat options: frosty paws (frozen peanut butter dog treat), shaved smoked turkey and crumbled applewood smoked bacon, buddy biscuits, and for the pup who likes the finer things–4 oz sliced petite filet mignon. Puppy patio hours are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Crosstown Brewing Company Serves Up Beer AND Food

The kitchen at Crosstown Brewing Company is open for business! The brewery built a new kitchen to serve up its own menu of food. The menu features apps and sandwiches. We’re most excited to give the smash burger a try or maybe the pimento cheese smash burger. They offer warm pretzels–a true brewery staple plus additional menu items like Memphis style wings, loaded fries, and more. The kitchen will operate Monday-Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Crave Cheesecake Cooks Up Gluten Options

We’re overdue on making another visit to the new Crave Cheesecake in South Main. While we’re not gluten-free here at the blog, this new GF Japanese inspired cheesecake is calling our names. This type of cheesecake is very light and fluffy with a caramelized top. Crave says you can take a classic slice and spice it up with their fresh fruit toppings.

Hello! I'm Jalyn Souchek, the Director of Content for I Love Memphis Blog! I love calling the 901 home. When I'm not running the blog you can find me cheering on the Grizzlies, at a concert, exploring a new restaurant or kicking back at one of our breweries. I hope you'll love experiencing Memphis with me.

Build your perfect Memphis meal:

I love to eat so if I were to have only one meal left.. I’m going all out. I’d start with an app of Gumbo Fries from Blue City Cafe or Bayou Fries from Chef Tam, wings from Good Fortune or Central’s (honey gold and Jamaican Jerk), potato salad from Fat Larry’s, side of bbq spaghetti from Bar-B-Q Shop, and fried okra from Soul Fish. All paired with a Beale Street Brewing Space Age Sippin’.

Your most memorable Memphis moment:

College GameDay on Beale Street. That was an electric and perfect morning. I was still working in news then and was able to take it in up close and on the stage at some points. The fun and joy of everyone down there that morning is unbeatable.
