Memphis Food News Update: Grilled Cheese Bar Edition

Memphis Food News Update

A quick look at a few new restaurants coming soon to Memphis and the Mid-South.

Turns out almost all of them are coming from established local restaurateurs expanding to new concepts.

If there’s opening date info out there, I’ve included it.

But first, a few restaurant ICYMI:
  • What’s open on Thanksgiving; some of these may be booked already so call ASAP.
  • The international holiday cocktail pop-up, Miracle, is coming back to The Liquor Store on Nov. 26. No reservations, no parties over 6, first-come, first-served.
  • Restaurant Iris has reopened in Laurelwood for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, plus a bar menu. Make reservations.
  • Second Line in Overton Square is now open every day for lunch and dinner.
  • Panta hosts a queer happy hour with Out Memphis every Monday night starting at 7 p.m.

New Restaurants Coming To Memphis

JoJo’s Espresso

This one opens today, November 18! Germantown’s favorite little coffee trailer has put down roots in a space next to Uncle Goyo’s and Moondance Grill.

Cheesy Corner at Ferraro’s

This is another one I’ve been hearing about since pre-pandemic, and I know it’s what the people want: a grilled cheese bar. Chessy Corner will be Ferraro’s pizza joint in the Pinch District.

Cocozza

A pandemic takeout favorite, Coccoza is an American Italian restaurant that will open a brick-and-mortar location in Harbor Town. Deni and Patrick Reilly of The Majestic Grille created the Cocozza concept in 2020. We might see this one open sooner rather than later!

Bog & Barley

Celtic Crossing owners DJ and Jamie Naylor and Chef Reny Alfonso will offer Irish food in a nice but cozy Irish pub environment at Bog & Barley in the Regalia Shopping Center.

The Public

In the former Sweetgrass space in Cooper Young, Knifebird owner Kate Ashby plans to open an upscale bistro that will not be a sports bar.

Ya Mas Taverna

The owner of this restaurant has been messing up my search results for years! Big Brother start and restauranteur Memphis Garrett plans to open a third location of his Mediterranean restaurant concept in The Edge District. They have a location in Fort Lauderdale, pictured below:

Cooper House Project

This craft brewery/bakery had a lowkey pop-up on Cooper Young Fest Day and the location on Cooper across from Celtic looks like lots of progress has been made. Fingers crossed we’ll get an update this year!

Ashtar Gardens

Also in Cooper Young, owner Edwin Dorsey expects to open this casual brunch and breakfast spot—with vegan options—in the coming months.

Anima Coffee Bar

The coffee geniuses at Vice & Virtue are taking their expertise to the next level at Anima, which will focus on coffee and amaro. This one will be in The Citizen in midtown.

3 of Cups

If you haven’t been to The Edge District lately, what are you waiting for? Inkwell cocktail bar is going strong, and Rootstock wine shop has opened across the street. The latter is planning a wine bar called 3 of Cups next door to the shop.
