The competition runs over four consecutive weeks. One winner is selected during each of the first three weeks. On the fourth week, those three winners return to compete for the championship.
The champion receives a $200 cash prize and is invited to serve as the featured poet and host for the next four Speaker Box events, earning an additional $50 per appearance.
Only 10 poets may compete each week. Sign-up begins at 6:30 PM. The show starts at 7:00 PM. Each poet may perform two poems during the evening.
