Description:

ANF Architects is pleased to present Ed Rainey: A Retrospective, a comprehensive exhibition honoring the life and work of acclaimed artist Ed Rainey (1954–2023). The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, February 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at ANF Architects.

Raised on a farm in West Tennessee, Rainey brought a grounded yet fearless sensibility to his work. He earned his degree from the Memphis College of Art in 1980 and went on to develop a powerful and distinctive visual language that critics described as “monumental, brash, formal, highly textured, and encompassing.” Over the course of his career, Rainey established himself as a significant voice in contemporary art, exhibiting in major galleries and museums in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Memphis.

Rainey’s work received national critical attention, with reviews appearing in Art in America, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The Atlanta Constitution. His paintings are held in prestigious permanent collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and the Newark Museum.

Ed Rainey: A Retrospective presents a sweeping view of the artist’s career, tracing the stylistic evolution that defined his lasting contribution to contemporary art. Through a selection of works spanning decades, the exhibition offers viewers an opportunity to engage deeply with Rainey’s bold formal language and enduring artistic vision.

So please join us for the opening of this exceptional exhibition at ANF on a special day, Thursday, February 26th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Admission is FREE, and guests will enjoy complimentary soft drinks, wine, and snacks. All pieces will be available for purchase with cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal. If you’re unable to attend the opening, the exhibition will be open for viewing at ANF on weekdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm from February 26th to March 27th, 2026.
