Where To Get Fresh Local Bread In Memphis

Fresh-baked bread is one of life’s greatest pleasures.

That crunchy, flavorful crust with soft bread inside, the butter melting into your mouth…or a toasted baguette slice topped with cheese at a picnic (or at your kitchen counter, I don’t judge).

We have no shortage of bread bakeries in Memphis and the Mid-South, from Mexican and French-style bakeries with decades of experience to solo bakers who have mastered their art and want to share it with the world. Yes, there are even a few vegan options!

Ordering from Ginger’s Bread was super easy. I placed my order online at night, got a confirmation email and  message with questions about the order from Mr. Hoxie. I dropped by the midtown bakery location for a porch pickup the next afternoon. It was all packed up and ready to go with my name on it. Simple and no-contact. Plus, everything was delicious!

I had too much and had to share with some neighbors and friends via porch drop-offs. It was a lovely way to spread good cheer and good food during a time when most people are still staying at home.

Scheduled pickup hours for pre-order (no walk-ups) at 2085 Linden Ave Front.

TWO NOTES.

Note 1: For purposes of this list, we are going more for there goes the baker with his tray like always instead of bakeries that focus on cakes, cupcakes, pies, and cookies. Most of the following Memphis shops, cafes, and bakers offer treats, too, but the Memphis fresh baked bread option is what we are looking for. Feel free to add any suggestions in the comments.

Note 2: Some of these Mid-South bread bakeries show up at farmer’s markets, especially the the Cooper Young Farmers Market, which is year-round. Check the markets and the bakeries’ social media to find out when you can pick up fresh bread at a local farmers market!
