Hot Ticket In Town: Ignite Memphis Vol. 9

Hot Ticket In Town: Ignite Memphis Vol. 9

One of my favorite parts of writing the I Love Memphis blog is getting to see how far things have come through old, old posts. The first time Ghost River was available in six-packs. The first I Love Memphis mural. When no one would go to Grizzlies games without being begged.

Here's another one: five years ago, Ignite Memphis had its very first event in Memphis at Playhouse on the Square. The roster included 16 speakers and included topics like voting, making mix tapes, and something called the "Nerd Rapture".

Here’s how Ignite works: creative, passionate Memphians submit talks and the best ones are selected to give a presentation. On November 23, these brave people will get on stage at the Halloran Centre downtown and give five minute presentations with 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds. You, ideally, walk away informed and enlightened and with plenty to discuss with your friends and on Twitter.

Ignite Memphis is preparing for its ninth event (told you thing have come a long way!) and tickets are on sale. If you purchase within the next 24 hours (from 11 a.m. on Nov. 9 to 11 a.m. on Nov 10) and use the code ILOVEMEMPHIS, you'll get $5 off the ticket price.

Ignite Memphis Vol. 9 is November 23, 2015 at the Halloran Centre downtown. The doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting promptly at 7:30. Tickets are $20 (click here to buy) and include beer, wine, and light snacks. Stay tuned for details of the after party, where organizers will announce the winner of the Fan Favorite Award.

This year's lineup includes a look into mass transit, the economics of coffee, an honest discussion of depression, and tips for bribing checkpoint guards in Central America, among others. Here's the full list:

Mixer/networking group Undercurrent has produced the last three Ignite events, and all of them have sold out, so I can't stress to you enough that you need to buy your ticket ASAP.

Launch Tennessee is returning as title sponsor. St. Jude, United Capital, and My HQ are sponsors as well. Start Co. and New Memphis Institute return as partners.
