Back in April, modern fashion and art shop Stock & Belle opened at 387 South Main Street. Just a few weeks ago, its sister shop, boutique grocery and general store 387 Pantry, opened in the adjacent space. I've had several pleasant afternoons perusing Stock & Belle and made my first visit to 387 Pantry this week. Stock & Belle This is a shop seemingly made for Instagram: the light-filled space is part mid-century living room (they sell furniture), part art gallery (also for sale), and part clothing boutique (they offer men's and women's fashion). It's the kind of place that draws in design lovers (I'm including myself) and appreciators of clean, handmade aesthetic. The clothes remind me a little of the kinds of clean, modern styles you'd find at Madewell and the furniture is the style that can be hard to find in Memphis. Art from vendors like GetArched (who specialize in Memphis-themed pieces) adorns the walls and is also for sale. There's also an adorable succulents sand garden. Also: If you go up the metal spiral staircase, you'll find Salon 387 hair salon and barber shop. 387 Pantry Right inside the entrance to Stock & Belle, you'll find a secondary entrance for the cute grocery and general store 387 Pantry. The atmosphere is the same clean, modern feel as Stock & Belle. 387 Pantry carries artisan foods and kitchen products, plus a smattering of other seemingly random maker-friendly items like fancy pencils and pizza cutters made out of recycled skateboards. They source meats, pastries, and more from Porcellino's, dry goods like rice, popcorn, coffee, teas, and snacks, sodas and liquors, plus cookbooks and magazines, fresh flowers, and candies. You can also buy a cup of brewed coffee. Lately I've heard a lot of downtowners hope for a full-scale, wallet-friendly grocery, but if you needed something in a pinch or wanted some speciality products, it will do just the trick.
