Happy Birthday, I Love Memphis! (Come Party With Me)

It's hard to believe that it's been five years since the first post appeared on this blog in August 2009.

Much has happened since then: 2,886 posts. 1,300 things to do on the weekends. 365 Memphians. 200 things to eat. Seven murals and counting. Six podcasts. A handful of "Best Blog" and "Best Twitter" awards. Two bloggers. One goal: to show that Memphis is totally lovable.

Five is a good even number. Half a decade. The age when, if this blog were a kid, it would start kindergarten. So we're going to do what we always do in Memphis when we find the slightest reason to: we're going to party.

With that in mind, please consider this post a personal invitation from me (Holly) to come to the I Love Memphis Birthday Party.

When: Sunday, August 17, 2014
What time: 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. last call
Where: Wiseacre Brewing Company (2783 Broad Avenue)
Who: You. And everyone you know. Y'all are all invited.

A few things to note:
– First 50 people will get a free pint on the I Love Memphis tab
–  Free birthday cake from Frost Bake Shop
– Fuel Food Truck will be on hand to satisfy your savory food needs (grilled cheese, please!)
– Photo booth (thanks to Joey Miller)

– Live t-shirt printing from Five In One Social Club

Be sure to bring your debit/credit cards for beer because Wiseacre is cash-free. There will be sodas and water for sale, too. You can park in the lot beside/behind Wiseacre, but there is overflow parking on Cumberland Street. Carpooling and cabbing are good ideas, too!

Go ahead and RSVP to the Facebook event if you would, so I'll know how many of your beautiful faces I can expect to see. (Link is here.)

Anything else you want to see at the party? As with everything on I Love Memphis, I'm looking for your feedback.

Door Prize Update. It's not a birthday party without cake and presents. I've had some local businesses chip in for some really fun door prize giveaways. We'll give out door prize tickets and do the drawings during the first half of the party.

Here's what's up for grabs:

One-hour massage from Midtown Massage
Tickets to Mary Poppins from Playhouse on the Square
Tickets to Corey Smith, OMG Music Fest, Drive By Truckers and more from Minglewood Hall
Tickets to Wild Fire Wrestling Tribute to Jerry Lawler from Wild Fire Wrestling
Jewelry from Lanksy The Accessories Shop
$25 gift certificates from Aldo's Pizza, Bardog, and Slider Inn (one for each)
Mini-basketball signed by the Grizzlies from the Memphis Grizzlies
Autographed photos of Tayshaun Prince, Tony Allen, and Marc Gasol, courtesy of the Memphis Grizzlies

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
