5 Things To Do in Memphis This Weekend: 8/29 - 8/31
Happy Friday, y'all! Get your three-day weekend started right with this list of five super fun things you'll want to do in Memphis this weekend:
1. Wheelchair Basketball Game, Mississippi Blvd. Church, Friday, 5:30 p.m., $5 adults / $3 kids
On Friday, the Memphis Rolling Grizzlies (our local wheelchair basketball team) will take on Regional One Health's basketball team in a game of wheelchair basketball. It's all ages, and there will be a raffle for fabulous prizes. Proceeds go to the Rolling Grizzlies' travel expenses for out of town games.
2. Zoo Brew, Memphis Zoo, Friday, 7 p.m., $40
Zoo Brew is a chance to wander the Memphis Zoo at night, tiny cup in hand, sampling more than 100 kinds of craft and hard-to-find beers from around the world. There's also food and live music. Don't let the tiny cup fool you, though – it's entirely possible to get a little (or a lot) tipsy at Zoo Brew, so arrange for a ride home or call a cab.
The Center for Southern Folklore's annual Memphis Music and Heritage Festival is two days of southern-fried live music, dancing, cooking, storytelling and vendors that happens downtown over Labor Day weekend. The festival is completely free and family friendly, so don't hesitate to bring everyone you know.
Cheer on the home team as the Memphis Tigers football program plays its first game of the 2014 season. Head over to Tiger Lane starting at 10 a.m. for tailgating, enjoy the free concert from local musicians Kevin and Bethany Paige starting at 2:45 p.m., and then head inside the Liberty Bowl for the kickoff at 6:04 p.m. Read the Guide to the 2014 Memphis Tigers Football Season here. Plus tickets are just $5 at Kroger; half of those ticket proceeds benefit the Mid-South Food Bank.
Five local burlesque performers, including LadyDoo Moi and Kitty Wompus will put on two snazzy shows this Saturday night in the new back bar at E&H's. All the proceeds benefit Friends for Life, Choices, and Planned Parenthood. Stick around after the show for a ghost hunt, jigs by the juke box, and of course, soul burgers. You're welcome to bring your own spirits, but be sure to buy sodas and beer at the bar.
Don't forget it's also Trolley Night on South Main tonight, the Beale Street Landing free Friday flicks starts tonight, and the Delta Fair starts today. Have a great weekend, and I'll see you back here on Tuesday.

The Center for Southern Folklore has a gift shop that might be able to accomodate (I'd call them to be sure) but all of the Liberty Bowl seating is outdoors.
