365 Things to Do in Memphis #182: Ride the Monorail

There are three ways to get to Mud Island River Park, and one of them is way more exciting than the others. Assignment #182 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to ride the monorail.
Monorail, Mud Island River Park, Memphis, Tenn.
Riding the monorail was one of the very first things I did for I Love Memphis, and it kind of stressed me out (I'm a transportation control freak with a semi-major fear of heights). But don't let my hang ups stop you - the monorail is a completely safe, unique way to get from downtown to the park. The trip is only a third of a mile long, but the big windows on the cars offer sweeping panoramas of the Mississippi River. Tickets for the Monorail are $4, but you can walk across the pedestrian bridge or drive to Mud Island via the Auction Street bridge for free. The monorail is only open from April through October, so be sure to keep that in mind when planning your trip. Go there:  Mud Island Monorail 125 N. Front St. Memphis, TN 38103 (901) 576-7241
