25+ Fun Things To Do In Memphis This August

August in Memphis is our last taste of summer. As the events gear up for fall and the temperatures fall, slowly, very, very slowly, here are 25+ ways to have some fun this month while making the most of what’s left of summer.

1.Tee Up at the FedEx St. Jude Golf Championship

Four days of the world’s best golfers taking center stage in Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Golf Championship at TPC Southwind on August 6-10, 2025–this includes a bonus day of practice you can catch. It’s not just about seeing the top 70 players compete on one of the toughest courses. There’s lots to eat, see, and do! An underrated must-attend Memphis event. 2. Celebrate Elvis’ life, music, and legacy during Elvis Week

Head to Graceland for an immersive and in-depth celebration of the King. Elvis Week, August 8-1, offers a lineup of live concerts and competitions to panel discussions, dance parties, and much more. The Candlelight Vigil, the cornerstone of Elvis Week, is on August 15Check out the full schedule of events.
 


3. Grab your lawn chair or blanket and head to the Overton Park Shell for live music

The 2025 Orion Financial Free Concert Series returns at the end of August with more Memphis legends and notable traveling acts. While the majority of the fall shows are in September, catch the first two this month! Sit back in the grass or in your lawn chair and enjoy the Stax Music Academy and Bobby Rush. Here’s the full schedule!
 


4. Catch the regional premiere of Jubilee at Hattiloo

Hattiloo's 19th season kicked off at the end of July with the start of the regional premiere production run of Jubilee. The production, which tells the story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers and how they shattered racial barriers runs July 25 through August 24. Catch the full lineup for the 19th season.

6. Sing along to movie screenings at the Orpheum

For some family-friendly and air-condtioned fun, head to the Orpheum for two sing along summer moving screenings. The first screening this month is Grease on August 2 followed by The Sound of Music on August 16. Two can't be beat classics to warm up those vocal chords to our introduce to your little ones in a fun way. 
 


7. Kick off the first Memphis Tigers Football Game of the Season

Can you feel it? That cool air that symbolizes the start of fall and football season? Who am I kidding, it’s Memphis. Fall isn’t close but football is! The Tigers will be at home for game one at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium on August 30 at 3:30 p.m. against Chattanooga. This 901 Game will be a celebration of all things Memphis.
 


8. Go to a festival dedicated to drinking beer and eating chicken

It’s almost Memphis Chicken & Beer Festival time! On August 16, this festival will take over Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. A ticket includes admission, a souvenir tasting cup, all beverage samples (90+ options!), and a portion to benefit Merge Memphis. 21+ only event.
 


9. Go Farm to Table at the Feast on the Farm Gala

The 11th annual Feast on the Farm Gala will also be held on August 2. This event, held at Agricenter International, is all about savoring delicious local cuisine. Enjoy live music and participate in exciting auctions. This event supports Agricenter's STEM and agriculture education programs, impacting over 18,000 Mid-South students annually. 
 

10. Head to the amphitheater for Live at the Garden

Live at the Garden will be rocking in August with Darius Rucker set to hit the stage. The former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman and three-time Grammy winner will perform on August 23 for Live at the Garden's sole August show. There are only lawn tickets available, so hurry and grab those tickets!
 


11. Take yourself out to the ball game with the Memphis Redbirds

We're down to the finally two months of games at AutoZone Park. Have you gone yet? If not, let's change that. Redbirds are at home for 12 games in August with two 6-game series against Durham and Gwinnett. Some of the promotions this month include $2 PBR beer nights on August 7 and August 21 or Memphis Blues Night celebrating B.B. King's upcoming 100th birthday on August 8. There will be a fireworks show on August 9 which also is a Toy Story themed night. See all the promotions running this month.

 

12. Hit Whet Thursday: Beats on the Bluff at the Metal Museum

On August 28th, the Metal Museum will host it's free Whet Thursday event series. This month's theme is Beats on the Bluff and will include a DJ battle experience with some of the city's best DJs–DJ AD, DJ South Memphis Jeff, and DJ Rhinestonee. After you're done grooving to the beat, grab a bite from a food truck or a drink at The Tipsy Tumbler. They'll also have hand-ons activities.
 

 


13. Seek out the sunflowers at Ducks Unlimited Park

Across the great Mississippi River into West Memphis, you’ll find a stunning patch of sunflowers in bloom. Can you find them? Our guide will help with that. Make a day out of it and walk or bike down to capture some beautiful photos.

 


14. Paddle away at Canoes + Cocktails at Shelby Farms Park

Every Friday night, Shelby Farms Park curates a canoe and cocktail experience at Hyde Lake.  Old Dominick Distillery provides the specialty cocktails with wine, beer, and individually packaged snacks at provided the First Horizon Foundation Visitor Center. You can opt for a standing paddle board, canoe, single or double kayaks, or even bring your own boat. Hit the fire pits after your paddle. 
 


15. Break a sweat at a free outdoor workout on the riverfront

Bend, step, dance, and flow during a free workout class with Memphis River Parks Partnership all month long. MRRP hosts Hustle & Flow Pilates on Mondays, Yoga on the River every Tuesday, Hustle & Flow Step bi-weekly on Wednesdays, Hustle & Flow Zumba Gold on the first and third Thursdays of the month,  Hustle & Flow HIIT classes on Saturday mornings,, and Hustle & Flow Kids with Kidokinetics every second and fourth Saturday. Honestly, that isn't even all of them! Check out line dancing, sunset skate and more on their full lineup of events.
 

16. Get creative at Brooks Museum's Super Saturdays series

This free creative series is offered every Saturday during the museum's free hours from 10 a.m. to noon. Drop in for an art making activity or a curated gallery guide. In August you can make transparent suncatchers on August 2, book art on August 9, pottery on August 16, experiment with pointillism on August 23, and textile art on August 30. Check out their robust lineup of upcoming events.
 


17. Sip and Stroll at Memphis Botanic Garden's adults-only series

If strolling through a garden with a cocktail in hand sounds like an perfect night, then this event is for you! Sip and Stroll is a monthly after-hours event at MBG that takes you on a walking tour of a highlighted specialty garden featuring themed cocktails. This month is back-to-school themed. On August 7, It's the adults turn to explore My Big Backyard to learn about pollinators, discover tropical treasures, and swing through the trees. 
 


18. Roll into the Honky Tonk Stomp Tournament

Cheer on Memphis Roller Derby during this two-day tournament at the Pipkin Building on August 9-10. Hard-hitting roller derby teams from across the state will compete in eight derby games.
 

 
19. Attend a lantern workshop in honor of Tom Lee

This 901 Day, Tom Lee Park will host the Tom Lee Mississippi River Gumption Revival Lantern Parade. Ahead of the parade, they'll host three lantern-making workshops so that everyone can participate on the big day. There will be three family-friendly workshops and three adult-only workshops catered to three different lantern styles. For family-friendly workshops, they will do Tom Lee kerosene lanterns on August 9, catfish lantern on August 16, and illuminated parasol on August 23. Adult-only workshops (in the same lantern style order) are on August 2, 23, and 30.
  


20. Channel nostalgia at an adult's Skol-astic Book Fair

For book lovers, there was never a better day in school than when the library was taken over for a book fair. Channel that same feeling at this beloved event at Soul & Spirits Brewery–back for year three! On August 9, local bookstores, authors, vendors, and food trucks will be on-site plus raffle prizes, an author reading and Q&A starting at 4 PM in the Low Tones room and the return of Lyric a farmhouse Earl Gray beer. 
 


21. Catch Live Music + Lasers at MoSH’s Laser Live

MoSH’s Planetarium transforms into Memphis’ most cosmic concert venue with the return of Laser Live! These are one-of-a-kind shows featuring live performances, laser displays, and drinks from Crosstown Brewing. This month features DJ Nico on August 9 and Mak Ro on August 30. Be sure to go early for a WYXR DJ set at 6pm! 
 


22. Support local theatre and see Come From Away

Come From Away tells the incredible true story of the 7,000 stranded passengers forced to land in a small town in Newfoundland due to the emergency closure of US airspace on 9/11/2001. Playhouse on the Square will run their production of the show from August 15 to September 14. The Broadway show is so good and no doubt Memphians will bring the energy and power of this show to life. 
 


23. Find your favorite mimosa concoction at the Mimosa Festival

The Mimosa Festival is back for its 10th event on August 30 at AutoZone Park. You'll get to sample your way through 20+ mimosa stations. Being that it's the 10th event, they're going big with fireworks and performances across three stages. The dress theme is Shades of White.
 


24. Vision board at a collage crafting party

Like really creative is making waves in Memphis as a creative crafting space. On August 14, hit the Junk Journal Jam with Like Really Creative at the Brooks Museum. Bring your favorite journal and rummage through vintage magazines to create mixed-media collages while vibing out to tunes from DJ Brilli with a community full of creatives. This isn't the only collage crafting party this month, so be sure to follow like really creative on Instagram.
 


25. Solve a murder mystery at The Jenkins Family Reunion

This Soulful Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at the Orpheum Theatre on August 24. There are two shows this day. The Jenkins Family Reunion is a wildly funny, heartfelt, and suspenseful immersive.
