Black Lodge Video Gets Its Own Documentary
Black Lodge Video Gets Its Own Documentary
They've always rented movies, but now they're the subject of one. Local filmmaker Patrick Buttram has made a documentary about Memphis' favorite local video rental service / cult classic hang out, Black Lodge Video.
The 20-minute short follows the history of the Cooper-Young store (and the guys who founded it), what makes it different than other video stores and the community that's sprung up around it.
The title, called "Where All the Evil Spirits Were: The Rise and Fall of Black Lodge Video", is a little misleading, given that the store is still a fixture in the local film scene.
