Memphis Project 365 - Day 20
Memphis Project 365 - Day 20
The Memphis Flyer's "20 Under 30" issue came out today and I was pleasantly surprised by the cover shot.
The cover story features some of the bright young things who are making a difference in Memphis. I'm totally honored to be included, especially among such great company.
Here are the other awesome people featured in the story:
- Max Lawhon (Co-Owner of Calhoun's Sports Bar)
- Anthony Siracusa (Globetrotting cyclist)
- Stephen Hackett (one of my favorite people)
- Tam Tran (photographer)
- Meridith Pace (Nurse at Christ Community Health Services)
- Ciara Conoway (Rhodes Student and activist)
- Keli Rabon (journalist at Channel 3)
- Michael Hudman (chef and owner of Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen)
- Shea Colburn (co-founder of the Rozelle Artists Guild)
- Kentucker Audley (filmmaker)
- Josephine Williams (Midsouth Peace and Justice Center)
- Roshunda Buchanan (President of the 2Unique Community Salvation Foundation)
- Dan Treharne (Creative director at True South Studios)
- Joel Parsons (Curatorial and Marketing Associate at the National Ornamental Metal Museum)
- Steven McMahon (Dancer / choreographic associate at Ballet Memphis)
- Julie Lansky (Buyer and marketing manager at Lansky 126)
- Patrick Hendricks (Project manager at the Med Foundation)
- Tarrin McGhee (Owner of Pique Creative)
- The Magic Kids (musicians)
Congratulations, everybody!

Dear Ms. Kerry Crawford-Trisler,
Today I came into work to find the Memphis Flyer with a picture of you completely defacing my mural i spent alot of time, money, and effort on.
I have spent the last 13 years of my life in this city working my ass off, honing my craft, and pouring in blood, sweat, and tears, being beat up by police, gangs, and peers, literally, to be able to paint my murals legally , in hopes that they will ride as long as they can without being removed or scribbled over. The mural of mine you defaced cost me and my friend at least $200 in materials to produce. That might not sound like much to a Cordova girl, but to us Memphians , it is a lot of money to put out to produce a mural for people to enjoy FOR FREE!
I'm sure Mr. Burks gave you permission to paint over that, seeing that he was the one who got me the wall in the first place to paint the mural. Regardless, you painted over someone else's art, and you should of took that into consideration.
One of the reasons I can't get very many legal mural jobs is because the owners of the walls notice that all the other murals in town eventually get defaced and makes it look like I'm involved with illegal disputes, gang or illegal graffiti. It also suggests that if i fix the defacement , it will just happen again...
I understand your graffiti movement, just keep it off of mine. I am 26 going on 27 and started this when i was 12 going on 13 and will accept no disrespect.
I apologize if this comes off as harsh, but this is something I feel very strongly about...
