The Southern Heritage Classic goes way beyond the football game itself. It’s a weekend full of activities, music, and competitions that highlights all of the talent of HBCU’s.
From concerts featuring Gladys Knight to the Classic Parade and the Classic Battle of the Bands – the Southern Heritage Classic has it all. We can’t forget the epic tailgate either.

Wednesday, September 11
35th Anniversary Southern Heritage Classic Exhibition
September 11 – February 28
The National Civil Rights Museum will present a special exhibition in honor of the Black collegiate football experience and long tradition entitled, The Southern Heritage Classic: Celebrating 35 Years of an HBCU Memphis Tradition. The exhibition features 120 artifacts that tell the story of Fred Jones Jr., the founder of the Southern Heritage Classic, and the participating schools.
