Shop Local: Stock & Belle

Downtown boutique with men's and women's clothing, furniture, art, and gifts.

Stock&Belle is one of my favorite stores in Memphis. It’s much more than a boutique. "Lifestyle store" is a more accurate description, because the stylish shop is filled with contemporary apparel, jewelry, local artwork, furniture, and other lifestyle goods. The space itself is super dope and inspiring, too.

Owned by Erika Smith and open since August 2015, Stock&Belle is housed in a circa-1929 South Main Street building. The building had been vacant for over 20 years, until she hosted a pop-up shop for her now-retired boutique brand CrazyBeautiful to “test the waters”  before opening a fully conceptualized store front.

I love how spacious the store is, and while the overall design aesthetic is more masculine (clean lines, dark walls, exposed brick and metal piping), there’s still a feminine touch with the lighting and other decor elements, so the space feels warm and inviting. I caught up with Erika to learn more about her inspiration behind the lifestyle concept, and the location choice of Downtown Memphis for S&B Headquarters.

Q&A With Stock & Belle Owner Erika Smith

Kim: Why Downtown Memphis for your first location?

Erika: I absolutely love the energy of Downtown, specifically South Main. From the colorful graffiti murals to the amazing restaurants and small businesses that make this area so unique, I instantly knew I wanted to be a part of its growth. There honestly was not much retail on South Main when we first opened, and I saw an opportunity to create something new for the community.

Kim: What do you feel sets Stock&Belle apart from other boutiques?

Erika: Stock&Belle has many intricate layers and is as much an experience as it is a store. With a modern, lifestyle store vibe, we carry everything from everyday apparel to thoughtful interior spaces and homegoods with a strong emphasis on local art. Our mission is to be a place of inspiration where you can come and find unique pieces for your own life and home. We love to support our local artists and creatives, and are proud to be a platform that has helped bring awareness to so many wonderful Memphis Makers over the years.

Kim: What’s your favorite part about owning a boutique?

Erika: I love to connect with people and Stock&Belle is a place for me to share my passion with others.  Styling is definitely one of my favorite parts of the job - there is nothing more rewarding than helping someone find new pieces that they are comfortable and confident in. Additionally, I love being part of such a vibrant community through which I have met so many amazing people and have cultivated strong relationships with local artists and other small business owners. I feel very blessed and am so grateful to have a job that I genuinely enjoy coming to every day.

Stock & Belle Overton Square Location

Everything in Stock&Belle is for sale, and if you can’t make it Downtown, the smaller, sister location in Overton Square (formerly CrazyBeautiful) is stocked with apparel, jewelry, and home goods, with a few exclusive items as well. There are new arrivals weekly, so it’s truly a must stop + shop store whenever you visit Memphis!
