Memphis Zoo Lights Up With New Lantern Festival

The Memphis Zoo is lighting up the holiday season with its debut Lantern Festival, presented by Truist.

The festival, whiched opened on November 14, features over 60 illuminated lantern sculptures, interactive displays, and countless opportunities for festive photos.

Visitors are greeted at the entrance with an Egyptian nod to Memphis with a giant Pharaoh-shaped lantern and whimsical flurries to get you into the holiday spirit.

Throughout the zoo, there are giant animal-shaped lanterns from smoke blowing dragons, buffalo herds, scorpions, giraffes, monkeys, and so many more. Wander through four enchanting tunnels including a lantern-lit pathway and one with glowing tiger lilies overhead or pose with giant illuminated wings or inside a shark's mouth. The lanterns are crafted by Tianyu Arts & Culture.

Festive treats and drinks are available for purchase, including s’mores, hot chocolate (with boozy options!), snow leopard tots, and a nutty squirrel cocktail.

Guests can also tackle some holiday shopping at the Bamboo Shop, featuring The Bear Factory’s build-your-own plush experience near the China exhibit exit. The Elephant Truck shop is also located near the front of the zoo.
