Memphis Memorial Day Weekend Guide 2023

Monday, May 29, 2023, is Memorial Day. This is a day set aside each year to remember United States Armed Forces personnel who died while in military service. It's also the official start to the summer, and a chance to take a day off work to spend time with friends and family.

All Weekend: 

Memphis Redbirds vs. Norfolk Tides, AutoZone Park, Tuesday - Sunday, May 23 - 28, times vary, prices vary, all ages/kid-friendly
Cheer on the Redbirds at downtown’s ballpark this Memorial Day weekend! Thursday is Throwback Night with $1 hot dogs and $2 beers. Friday AutoZone Park will celebrate with an all-you-can-eat Memphis BBQ featuring BBQ nachos or sliders with pulled chicken and pulled pork + more. Purchase separate tickets for this here.

Enjoy fireworks on Saturday night! On Sundays kids get free ice cream and can run the bases after the game.

Bluff City Fair, Liberty Park, Through May 29, prices vary, all ages/kid-friendly
Enjoy the Bluff City Fair filled with you favorite carnival rides, fair food, and performances. Special promotion: Get a $10 ticket that gets you into the fair on either Saturday or Sunday and the Memphis Showboats game on Sunday, May 28th.

Friday, May 26 of Memorial Day Weekend In Memphis

South Main Trolley Night, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., free to attend
It’s Trolley Night! There’s a bunch of parties, open houses, happy hours, live music, and fun. Find out more here.

Mississippi River Terrace Rooftop Party at Bass Pro Pyramid, 6 p.m. - 11 p.m., free entry from 6-7 p.m., $10 after
Every last Friday of the month, Mississippi River Terrace opens to the public for a rooftop party overlooking the M bridge and breathtaking river views. Enjoy live music, DJs, and more.

Sticky Dojah, Central Station / Eight & Sand, 9 p.m., free entry
Eight & Sand at Central Station hosts DJ Sticky Dojah to kick off Memorial Day Weekend. They’ll have regular hours all weekend.

Joe Rainey at The Green Room / Crosstown Arts, 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., $20 in advance, $25 day of
Pow Wow singer Joe Rainey will perform at The Green Room in his command of the Pow Wow style.

Black Hippie at The Moxy, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., free entry
What's better than a little Friday night pregame? A pregame AND a show! Blvck Hippie will be performing live at Moxy Memphis Downtown! Come grab a drink at Bar Moxy and let Blvck Hippie's indie rock wash over you.

Best Night Ever: Taylor's Version at Growlers, 8 p.m. doors / 9 p.m. show, $15-20, 18+
Memphis Swifties kick off the Memorial Day Weekend with a dance party playing nothing but Taylor (all eras).
 

Saturday, May 27 of Memorial Day Weekend In Memphis

Memphis In May’s Great American River Run on Saturday. This is a half-marathon / 10K / 5K race in downtown Memphis with a huge after party + cash prizes!

Aaron Frazer, Central Station / Eight & Sand, 9 p.m., free entry
Eight & Sand at Central Station hosts revival soul singer Aaron Frazer. "His higher register conveys a wide emotional palate and a progressive worldview in the tradition of musical masterminds like Curtis Mayfield." 

Alex Greene & the Rolling Head Orchestra, The Green Room / Crosstown Arts, 7:30 p.m., $15-$20
Enjoy some original cinematic jazz during this Green Room show. Combining themes worthy of the Golden Age of Hollywood with more modernist sonic textures, and echoing artists as diverse as Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, and Sun Ra, the classic jazz sextet of the Rolling Head Orchestra is now augmented by the eerie wail of the Theremin.

House Party, Southland Casino, 3 p.m. - 10 p.m., free entry, 21+
Hit Southland for their monthly House Party event where live DJs and bands are spread throughout the casino floor from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Several opportunities to win their cash drawings too. Read about our trip to the last House Party here.

Sunday, May 28 of Memorial Day Weekend In Memphis

DJ Envy Drive Your Dreams Car Show, Agricenter International, 12 p.m. - 5 p.m., $20
DJ Envy & Paper Route presents the “Love for the Streets Car Show” edition featuring cars from DJ Envy, 50 Cent, Key Glock, Young Dolph and more.

Sunset Symphony, Overton Park Shell, 7:30 p.m., free
The Overton Park Shell begins their free concerts series with a return of one of Memphis's most treasured traditions - The Sunset Symphony - a concert dedicated to our incredible community. A free community celebration highlighting the incredible musicians from the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Bring your picnics, cooler, blankets, and chairs or purchase food and drink on site. Leashed dogs allowed only in certain areas. 

Memphis Showboats vs Houston Gamblers, Bank Liberty Stadium, 1:30 p.m., prices vary
Join the Showboats for the Hats Off to Heroes day. Kick-off is at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium at 1:30 PM. First 3,000 fans receive USFL hats!  Get a $10 ticket that gets you into the Bluff City Fair on either Saturday or Sunday and the Memphis Showboats game on Sunday, May 28th.

Brownsville to commemorate life of Tina Turner, Tina Turner Museum, 7 p.m., free
A Twilight Memorial will honor the life and legacy of Tina Turner, a native of Brownsville. The ceremony will take place on the lawn of the Tina Turner Museum. It will include a memory board for people to share their condolences selected speakers, and at dusk candles will be lit in her memory.

Monday, May 29 of Memorial Day Weekend In Memphis

West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd.) will host a Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 30. Details. Don't forget what the day is all about.

Memorial Day BBQ, Railgarten, 3 p.m., $40+, 21+
Young Ike Diddy hosts this 3rd annual event features 12 DJs from around the city for a day of jams and good vibes. Food, games, giveaways, vendors, special performances + more.

La Luz w/ JayWood, Growlers, 7 p.m., $15-$18
On their self-titled fourth album, La Luz launch themselves into a new realm of emotional intimacy for a collection of songs steeped in the mysteries of the natural world and the magic of human chemistry.
