Memphis Memorial Day Weekend Guide 2024

Monday, May 27, 2024, is Memorial Day. This is a day set aside each year to remember United States Armed Forces personnel who lost their live while in military service.

Take your day off work to spend time with friends and family. Here's your full guide for Memorial Day Weekend which includes Memorial Day specific events and more happenings.

Bluff City Fair, Liberty Park, May 24 - June 2, prices vary, all ages

Enjoy the Bluff City Fair filled with your favorite carnival rides, fair food, and performances. Checkout the attraction schedule here

Mempho Presents: Widespread Panic, Radians Amphitheater at Memphis Botanic Garden, Friday and Saturday, 6:30 p.m., $144/ 2-day pass

Widespread Panic has been together over three decades. Formed by vocalist/guitarist John Bell, bassist Dave Schools and late lead guitarist Michael Houser in the mid-1980s. The event includes performances by Margo Price on Friday and Paul Cauthen on Saturday.

Sundresses & Linen Weekend, Friday til Sunday, $188/3-day pass

It’s 3 days and 4 events happening as the summer’s most sophisticated weekend. Friday is a Happy Hour + Welcome Party. Saturday is the HBCU + Greek Cookowt. Sunday is the legendary Sundresses and Linen event along with a Midnight Brunch. It’s not too late to grab tickets!

Friday, May 24 of Memorial Day Weekend In Memphis

Happy Hour in the Grove– Charging Rhinoceros of Soul, GPAC, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., free to attend

Josh brings in the horns and rhythm for this week's dose of good times with a capital "J.” Head to the First Horizon Foundation Plaza for live music from Josh Threlkeld and Friends, drink specials curated by their master mixologist, Brad Pitts, deals on local beer, and $5 wine. Steak Escape food truck will be there serving up good eats. 

Opening Reception for “MANE” and “Hidden Gems,” The Galleries at Crosstown Arts, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., free to attend

“MANE”  reflects the various interpretations from local Memphis-based artists in their hometown. The show will explore how southern speech has shaped their view of community and themselves. “Hidden Gems” includes artists with modest visibility and offers them an opportunity to show up and be uncovered.

Orion Free Concert Series ft. Lukah w/ Hope Clayborn & The Fire Salamander, Overton Park Shell, 7:30 p.m., free to attend

Back from a tour of the UK and Europe in support of Raw Extractions and Permanently Blackface, Lukah continues to channel spiritual and intellectual urgency as he solidifies his status as one of the most treacherous and insightful writers in the South, described by DJ Statik Selektah as “the south’s Black Thought.” Picnic baskets, coolers, beverages, blankets, and lawn chairs are always welcome. They offer food and beverages for sale in the Autozone Food and Beverage Concourse. Dogs on a leash are welcome in designated areas.

Saturday, May 25 of Memorial Day Weekend In Memphis

Memphis In May’s Great American River Run on Saturday. This is a half-marathon / 10K / 5K race in downtown Memphis with a huge after party + cash prizes!

National Cemetery Memorial Day Flag Placement, 9 a.m. - Noon, $2 cash to register for patches

Join The Chickasaw Council on May 25 for the annual Memorial Day flag placement ceremony. This year it is being held in memory of Nathan Cortez, former cubmaster for Pack 258. Bartlett Alderman, Kevin Quinn, will be the guest speaker.

Spachella- Memorial Day Weekend Edition, Boe Resorts, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., $15

Celebrate Mother's Day with SPACHELLA - a fun-filled event with spa services, music, food, and activities for the whole family! Get ready to dance, sing, and create lasting memories with friends and family.

The GOODLife DJs Annual Memorial Day House Music Picnic, Overton Park, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., free to attend

Grab your tents and chairs for the ultimate picnic. There will be 6 DJs playing feel good dance music perfect for the whole community.

Goat Yoga, Shelby Farms Park, 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., $25-$30, 6 years old and up

Get ready for a fun and unforgettable workout experience with 901 Goat Yoga! Head to Shelby Farms Park for a session of goat yoga that will leave you feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and smiling from ear to ear. This unique fitness class combines the benefits of yoga with the joy of interacting with adorable baby goats. Bring your own yoga mat or beach towel and avoid wearing loose jewelry. 

Picnic Party 901– Mom’s Night Out, Shelby Farm Park, 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., free to attend

This ladies only picnic theme is Tea Party Extravaganza. Picture yourself in a charming tea dress (nothing fancy is required), adorned with elegant hats, gloves, or whatever you desire. Bring out your teacups and enjoy a delightful afternoon surrounded by the enchantment of our tea themed picnic. bring your own food/drinks. Shade is not guaranteed, but tents are fine if you'd like to bring them. Picnic blankets/chairs are also a smart idea! 

Habert Avenue Porch Show, 1858 Harbert Avenue, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., free to attend but donations accepted

The Let’s Be Frank food truck will begin serving at 5 PM. The music begins at 5:30 PM with the Turnstyles. Tyler Keith & the Apostles go on at 6:15. Beer provided by Memphis Made Brewing Company will be served in the driveway. There is room for a limited number of people to sit in the front yard and many folks bring lawn chairs and often sit on the sidewalk across the street. There is no admission charge, but donations to the performers are accepted and encouraged.

901 FC vs The Pittsburgh Riverhounds, AutoZone Park, 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., $11-$72

Cheer on the Beale Street boys at their matchup against the Riverhounds from Pittsburg. Stay for the post-game fireworks!

Sunday, May 26 of Memorial Day Weekend In Memphis

 

Memphis Showboats vs. DC Defenders, Simmons Banks Liberty Stadium, 1:30 p.m., $11-$54

Let’s cheer on our Boats as they play the second to last game of the season. 

Grassfire Bluegrass Band, Loflin Yard, Noon - 3 p.m., free to attend

Enjoy amazing Bluegrass jams from the beloved Grassfire band over brunch in the open air Coachhouse! Dogs and all ages are welcome, so bring the whole family out for a Sunday Funday.

Orion Free Concert Series ft. Sunset Symphony, Overton Park Shell, 7:30 p.m., free to attend

Celebrate another edition of Memphis Reggae Nights featuring We'll be featuring Memphis' very own, BIGG SMITH! Also, DJ Static will be on the 1s and 2s to keep the vibes going.

Monday, May 27 of Memorial Day Weekend In Memphis

West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd.) will host a Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 27. Details. Don't forget what the day is all about.

Charity Memorial Day Pickleball Tournament, Peace Tree UMC, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., $40 minimum donation

Join in on a charity pickleball tournament that's open to players of all skill levels. Fun and friendly play begins at 9:00 a.m. during the recreational round robin. Competitive round robin begins at Noon. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for those who wish to warm up. No partner needed – players will compete as individuals in a doubles format.

Memorial Day Camp, D-BAT Memphis, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Enjoy an unforgettable experience with a day filled with fun and the love of baseball and softball. The Memorial Day Camp offers expert coaching, skill-building drills, and friendly competitions. Don’t miss out - register now and make this Memorial Day one to remember.

Memphis Cars & Coffee, Top Gun Memphis, 10 a.m. -  Noon, free to attend

This is a casual gathering for Memphis area car owners that welcomes all makes and models of vehicles.

Shroomlicious Vegan Cookout, Shroomlicious Meals, 1 p.m. - 6 p.m., free to attend and $20 for a BBQ plate

They’re bringing the flavor with a spread that'll make your taste buds dance, all centered around the amazing mushroom. And guess what? They've got sizzling BBQ plates hot off the grill for just $20 a pop. Sweet Tea Social, 635 Madison Ave (behind Inkwell), 3 p.m. - 8 p.m., pay what you can

Sip, Savor & Connect at the Sweet Tea Social! Herbal sweet teas, live dj's, and art in the spirit of community. Get into the groove curated by DJ NyceLyfe, DJ Zhontille and DJ Gee Honey; keeping the vibes lively all day long. Create your own floral masterpiece at the flower bar. This is a donation-based event with a suggested minimum, pay what you can. A percentage of the funds raised will go towards supporting the Food System Resiliency Council (formerly known as Memphis Tilth).

Memorial Day Sound Bath, The Broom Closet Memphis, 6:30 p.m., $20, ages 16 and up

Wind down from the Memorial Day holiday weekend with a soothing sound bath. Matt Petty, a musician, Reiki Master, and certified sound therapist, will lead us in a meditative sound experience using crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and multiple instruments. You may want to bring a blanket if you get cold during meditation.

Mondays are all about happy hour and karaoke with the one and only Tami! Trust me, she'll have you belting out your favorite tunes in no time.
