FREE Live Music Is Back At The Levitt Shell This Fall

Free live music is back at the Levitt Shell this fall!

After a summer of Shell Yeah! fundraising shows, the Levitt Shell is bringing back free concerts for our community!

Below is the lineup for the Fall 2021 season, which will run September 3 through October 23. Concerts are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. This year, the Levitt Shell will also partner with the Memphis Black Arts Alliance to showcase and program black artists during each show.

Things to know before you go to a levitt shell show in Memphis

  • Bring chairs, blankets, coolers, picnics, any of your own food and drink – or enjoy the beer and food for sale.
  • The shows are free, but it’s always great to bring a couple of bucks to throw in the donation buckets.
  • Most shows begin at 7 p.m., but I would get there at least a half-hour early to snag a good spot. (Or an hour if a good spot is really important to you!)
  • Parking is a challenge. Get there early to find a place to park, carpool, get a ride, take a Lyft, ride a bike, or walk!
  • The shows are all ages, but as with anything, parents should look up the entertainment ahead of time to be sure they’re cool with it.

More About Memphis Black Arts Alliance Partnership and Opening Acts

Formed in 1982, the Memphis Black Arts Alliance is one of the oldest and most prominent African-American focused arts organizations in the city. Executive Director Lar’Juanette Williams is leading the charge to bring opening acts for the series.

“Though we’re still finalizing dates, we’re excited to bring acts such as Adajyo, the Memphis Jazz Workshop, Young Actors Guild, Caza Teatro, SubRoy Studios, and Kurl McKinney and Sons to name a few,” said Williams.

“Memphis has always had a diverse wealth of phenomenal artistry. We are so very pleased to partner with the Levitt Shell to highlight and produce great local entertainment.”

Ways To Support The Levitt Shell

While you can always swipe your card for a quick donation during a free show at the Levitt Shell (or drop some cash in the donation bucket), there are several other ways to support this awesome free thing to do in Memphis:

What Is "Shell Yeah!" ?

When you think Levitt Shell, you think "free concerts".

But these free shows don't grow on trees, and neither do the lights, sounds system, groundskeeping, and staffing for the shows. The Levitt Shell really needs our donations and support in order to keep the music going. That's why they host a couple of paid concerts every year.

If you're a frequent Shell-goer, you can think of it like getting dozens concerts for the price of a few. These concerts are different from usual Shell shows because outside food and drinks aren't allowed, and pets need to stay at home.

We'll keep you updated on when they do a fundraising Shell Yeah show again.
