New Bread Bakery! Ginger's Bread Co. Now Open In Midtown

Shoaf's Loaves are All-Organic Lovin' From the Oven

Fresh baked bread, baguettes, sourdough, challah, croissants, cookies, and more!

There's a new bakery offering fresh bread and more in midtown! Jimmie Hoxie's The Ginger's Bread started up during the pandemic offering pickup, and today opened a brick-and-mortar location at 1613 Union Avenue. The goods are baked each morning at Otherfoods Kitchen and brought over to the new space, which is in between the fancy brick Valvoline and the Mormon storefront on Union.

They're in a "soft opening" period, open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. (or until everything's sold out) and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can order online ahead of time and pick up at the store, or you can just see what they have in stock at the shop.

Today I stopped in about 11:30 and talked with Grant Whittle, who explained that the chocolate croissants had sold out quickly but there was still a selection of other things left. I bought all the vegan chocolate chip tahini cookies—they were so delicious, thicky, and filling. I also snagged the last loaf of rosemary sourdough.

Grant explained that Jimmie uses a twenty-year-old sourdough starter that he's been tending for years as the basis for most of their bread loaves. There's also a soft and fluffly challah and a variety of cookies including a Mexican cocoa cookie, chocolate ginger, cake-y sprinkle cookies and more.

Ginger's Bread Co. plans to have art vendors set up in their front space most days and some new signage out front. While there are a couple tables, it's more of a grab 'n' go kind of place.

The soft opening is now through June 4th, which is the official grand opening. Go check it out and support our local bread bakery in Memphis!
