Feast and Graze Brings People Together One Cheese Board at a Time

Bringing people together one cheese board at a time: Feast and Graze.

Owned by Cristina McCarter, Feast and Graze is America’s first Black-woman-owned Charcuterie Shop & Cafe. McCarter first opened the shop in 2019 and has expanded to two locations in Memphis, catering services, and more.  In November of 2024, the second location opened in Poplar Plaza near the University of Memphis.

I stopped by their newest location to chat with Cristina about the new location and what she is looking forward to this year.

Tell me about the new space and what makes it special?

“The new space is our brand and it looks like what we envisioned," she said. “Having our own spot that we were able to build from beginning to end is special.  It's cute and unique like our cheese boards.” The new location features a build your own charcuterie bar, a grab and go station and local gifts from other Memphis businesses. “Doing the build your own charcuterie bar is a fun new way to do charcuterie and people seem to enjoy that kind of stuff, "McCarter said.

Talk about the collaboration with Sierra and HighP Hour wellness.

Another cool thing about the newest location is that in addition to Cristina’s tasty cheeses, she also has fresh pressed juices available made by her cousin, Sierra Rhodes. “(When) talking with Sierra about her journey and experience as an entrepreneur, the idea of collaboration came up. We always needed a balance between food and beverages and she took over the entire beverage side. She’s family, McCarter said.”

What were the beginnings of Feast and Graze, and what do you find most exciting about its current growth?

“2020 opened the doors for it all. I joined a Facebook group and learned I was the first one in Memphis, she said. I started to find all these niche food people that looked like me and that made me feel good.” Previously, Feast and Graze was located in Downtown Memphis. “Parking and having a centrally located space makes it easier for our customers to access has been one of my favorite parts about the new space,” she said. “The space itself is cute and we like being here. I enjoy seeing customers we don’t always see in person because they always do delivery, she said.”

Every time I visit Feast and Graze, Cristina makes sure I’m fed and that is what the new space is all about; community and great food. In Mcarter’s words, “Good food brings people together and good company keeps them there.”

Describe your perfect day in Memphis.

In a perfect world, crawfish season and football season would overlap, so I could start my day at Max’s Sports Bar with a bunch of boiled crawfish, then head straight to a Tigers game. After that, I’d wrap up the night with dinner and drinks at Huey’s or The Green Beetle—probably with a rooftop pink cocktail somewhere in the mix. That day would be a 10/10!
