Description:
Our service club ANF Memphis is excited to announce that we're hosting “The Longest Table”, a grassroots movement featuring a shared outdoor potluck meal at a wonderfully long table that cultivates belonging and rebuilds social bonds.
The movement began in 2022 in the New York neighborhood of Chelsea, whose dinner has grown to 2,000 attendees, and has since been held in over 100 communities across the world.
The Longest Table’s co-founder Maryam Banikarim will join and speak at ANF Memphis’ Longest Table event on Sunday September 27th, which is being held in celebration of National Good Neighbor Day on the 28th and aims to be the largest one to be held in Memphis at 300+ attendees.
The potluck dinner will be held at Overton Park's East Parkway from 5-7pm. Memphians who volunteer to serve as Table Captains will invite 10-20 of their neighbors, family, and friends to sit at their table and build community. Kids are welcome, as always at our events.
30+ Table Captains are needed and if you’d be interested in serving as one, email ANF Memphis President Lydia Rosencrants at [email protected].
RSVP for your particular table on this event page and note what you'll be bringing to the potluck in the survey. If you don't have a table and prefer not to serve as a Table Captain, RSVP here under General Registration and we'll sit you with people who live closest to you!
Maryam will be in town to be interviewed on the podcast Army of Normal Folks (ANF), which is hosted by lifelong Memphian Coach Bill Courtney, who is the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Undefeated. ANF recently launched 6 local service clubs, including ANF Memphis.
ANF Memphis President Lydia Rosencrants said, “Building community with your neighbors while experiencing dozens of other neighborhoods doing the same thing right next to you is going to make this a wonderfully magical evening. Plus, to have the co-founder of The Longest Table with us here in Memphis is the perfect cherry on top!”
