FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7
Shakey Graves (Solo) at Minglewood Hall
Doors 7 p.m., Show 8 p.m. / $41+
One of the best live one-man shows out there. Austin’s Shakey Graves brings his suitcase kick drum and wild-eyed storytelling to Minglewood. This solo set should be special. Expect some deep cuts, loose jams, and probably a few half-funny, half-sad monologues in between.
FRIDAY–SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7–8
Bass Haven (2-Day Event) at Havenhaus
Doors 7 p.m. both nights / $20 Day Pass or $30 Weekend Pass
Two nights of low-end chaos at one of Memphis’s best underground venues. Expect wall-to-wall subs, lasers, and sweat dripping from the ceiling. This is the second time putting them in this blog, as Havenhaus has been building a name for itself as the go-to DIY dance hub, and this lineup should push it over the edge. Bring earplugs and water.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band at Orpheum Theatre
Show 7:30 p.m. / $53+
New Orleans brass royalty. The Dirty Dozen have been blending funk, R&B, and jazz for nearly five decades, and they still bring more energy than bands half their age. Seeing them in the Orpheum’s grand acoustics? Chef’s kiss.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10
PJ Morton at Minglewood Hall
Doors 6:30 p.m., Show 7:30 p.m. / $40+
Grammy-winning soul from a man who makes every note feel personal. PJ Morton blends gospel roots with R&B. His live band is always ridiculously tight, which is perfect for Sunday night vibes.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 11
Chiodos – “All’s Well That Ends Well” 20-Year Anniversary Tour at Minglewood Hall
Doors 6 p.m., Show 7 p.m. / $32+
The post-hardcore icons are dusting off their 2005 breakout album for a full album playthrough. Double this value with the fact that Hawthorne Heights is opening and you got yourself an extremely punk night. Scream your hearts out.
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13
William Elliott Whitmore at Hernando’s Hide-A-Way
Doors 7 p.m., Show 8 p.m. / $20
Couldn’t be a more perfect pairing of artist and venue. Whitmore’s stripped-down folk and blues fit Hernando’s like a glove, which is just raw, smoky, and real. Whenever you have a chance to see a true talent with a banjo and a bass drum, you have to take it.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14
Stephen Wilson Jr. at Graceland Live
Doors 7 p.m., Show 8 p.m. / $46+
Stephen Wilson Jr. has always hit that sweet spot between indie rock and country. Graceland Live keeps booking killer acts, and this one’s no exception. Fun fact: this guy used to be a boxer, then a scientist, and now a musician. What can’t Stephen Wilson Jr. do?
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19
Jeff Tweedy at GPAC
Show 7:30 p.m. / $74+
Gotta be there to see Wilco’s frontman, solo and stripped-down. Tweedy’s playing GPAC on his “Twilight Override” tour, which is named after his recent album, which rocks. For Wilco purists, no need to worry; he plays a ton of Wilco songs on tour. Should be an awesome show.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23
Jagged Edge – Cuffing Season Tour at Orpheum Theatre
Show 7:30 p.m. / $47+
You already know what time it is; it’s Jagged Edge time. Come for the R&B classics and matching outfits. It’s getting colder out so you know that Jagged Edge is bringing the hits and the harmonies, just in time for cuffing season.
