Here’s a sneak peek of what’s cooking up around Memphis:

1. Memphis Filling Station Brewing

Craft beer fans, get ready to add another must-visit brewery to your list! MFS Brewing opens soon in the South Main neighborhood near Wiseacre. I, for one, am excited to brewery hop between both those spots and Ghost River’s South Main taproom. I got a preview taste of MFS Brewing at a pop-up at Memphis Made and I was impressed! Cannot wait to see what they have brewing up in their official space. They’ll be located at the former location of The Haven Memphis, which is next door to Renee’s Sandwich Shop.

Opening Date: Sept. 13, 2024

Address: 205 GE Patterson

2. Felicia Suzanne’s

If you’ve been around Memphis, you know the buzz surrounding Felicia Suzanne’s, a beloved restaurant that previously served up elegant Southern cuisine with a creative twist. After a brief hiatus, Felicia Suzanne’s is making a highly anticipated return with their new space also located in South Main with renovations currently underway. The new location can be found at the old Spindini restaurant space at. Please, please, please let them bring back the 25 cent martinis.

Opening Date: Fall 2024

Address: 383 South Main Street

3. Kura Sushi

A new sushi restaurant is expected to open at the former location of Bhan Thai along Peabody Ave. At this moment, details are extremely sparse but after multiple drive-bys, it appears this restaurant is getting close to open which is great to see new life in a space long vacant.

Opening Date: TBD

Address: 1324 Peabody Ave

4. Pearl’s Tea & Coffee House

Located next door to the previously mentioned Kura Sushi, will be this new tea and coffee house–taking the coffee house name literally in a space that once was a home. Like Kura Sushi, the details are limited. It doesn’t appear this is as close to Kura Sushi to opening.

Opening Date: TBD

Address: 1330 Peabody Ave.

5. The Juke Speakeasy

A sophisticated speakeasy (25 and older) is coming to the downstairs space of Biscuits & Jams Downtown location at Hotel Indigo. They’ll offer crafted cocktails, small plates, live entertainment, and more. Biscuits & Jams is running the speakeasy so you know the food will be good.

Opening Date: TBD

Address: 24 N B.B. King Blvd

6. Pizza Me!

From Curtis Givens, of In Love Memphis, comes this new pizza joint in East Memphis. Pizza Me! will offer “gourmet pizza with an urban twist that’s lightning-fast.” A preview of the menu on their website features a few specialty pizzas including one with hood sauce topped with fried chicken and one with Big Bill’s BBQ Sauce and grilled chicken. Oh, and they're giving away 500 free pizzas opening day.

Opening Date: September 13, 2024

Address: 2857 Kirby Rd #117

It won't let me embed their Instagram, but check out their preview posts.

7. Kellie’s Deli

Sometimes, you just need a good deli sandwich, and that’s exactly what Kellie’s Deli aims to provide. This new downtown deli is opening at the former River Market at the New Memphis building. Living nearby, I’ve seen steady progress with the space renovations. WREG did a story on the new spot which will serve sandwiches, soups, and a variety of desserts.

Opening Date: Fall 2024

Address: 516 Tennessee St. #127

8. Mahogany River Terrace

Mahogany Memphis is expanding soon with its second location on Mud Island in the old River Terrace location. I attended an event back in December at the new location and the restaurant was ready to go then but hasn’t opened yet but it appears it could be soon by the teasers they have started to share on their social media channels. I can add that the space is beautiful, especially the super elegant upstairs bar.

Opening Date: October 2, 2024

Address: 60 N Mud Island Rd

9. The Dame

This will be a super sophisticated cocktail bar located in the basement at Hotel Pontotoc, the former hotel which is undergoing a major renovation right now. Seeing new life come to this space while keeping its original historical charm is so satisfying. The hotel itself will be a boutique with just 10 upscale rooms.

Opening Date: Fall 2024

Address: 69 Pontotoc Ave.

10. The Archives Bar & Bistro

From Chef Phillip Dewayne, of Park + Cherry at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, comes The Archives Bar & Bistro located in a newly renovated space at Hotel Napoleon in downtown. According to Chef Dewayne, two items to try will be the Champagne Caviar Affair and The Archives Burger.

Opening Date: Fall 2024

Address: 179 Madison Ave.

Build your perfect Memphis meal:

I love to eat so if I were to have only one meal left.. I’m going all out. I’d start with an app of Gumbo Fries from Blue City Cafe or Bayou Fries from Chef Tam, wings from Good Fortune or Central’s (honey gold and Jamaican Jerk), potato salad from Fat Larry’s, side of bbq spaghetti from Bar-B-Q Shop, and fried okra from Soul Fish. All paired with a Beale Street Brewing Space Age Sippin’.

Your most memorable Memphis moment:

College GameDay on Beale Street. That was an electric and perfect morning. I was still working in news then and was able to take it in up close and on the stage at some points. The fun and joy of everyone down there that morning is unbeatable.
