Memphis’ food culture is the highlight of a new and unique theater production.
From LoneTree Live, a Memphis production company, comes a new production, A Bite of Memphis. This documentary theater piece weaves the stories of a diverse group of voices from local chefs, home cooks, clergy, and foodies.
LoneTree Live’s mission is to push the boundaries of theater in creative methods. I once attended an audio immersive production they did where you sit in the dark. They are truly doing some of the most unique productions in Memphis.
Throughout the production, monologues will be performed based on the real-life stories of local interviewees. A few examples include Jordon Douglas as Branon Mason, Head Chef from Ciao Bella and Nic Harris as Derravia Rich, Founder of Black Seeds Urban Farm.
A Bite of Memphis features 20+ Memphis locations with influential food traditions and their deep connections to the community. A map of each mentioned place can be found here.
“Our goal is to reveal the heart and soul of our city through our shared love of food. Audiences will have the opportunity to savor the rich flavors, traditions, and stories that define Memphis through its culinary heritage,” said Julia Hinson, LoneTree Live’s founder and producer.
