April is here, and it’s Global Volunteer Month – a time to roll up your sleeves, give back, and make Memphis a better place for all. Whether you’re an eco-warrior, a community builder, or a creative spirit, there’s a volunteer opportunity for everyone in this vibrant city.

1. April Weed Wrangle at Memphis Botanic Garden
Friday, April 4 | 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Love nature and want to help plants thrive? Wrangle some weeds at the Memphis Botanic Garden! You’ll get to work with fellow volunteers and Memphis Botanic Garden staff to remove invasive plants and help restore the garden’s wildflower woodland. It's a fun and rewarding way to give the local ecosystem a little TLC while learning about the importance of native plants. Plus, it's an excuse to spend time outdoors!
2. Best Buddies Friendship Walk
Saturday, April 5 | Multiple Shifts Available
Walk for a cause that celebrates friendship, inclusion, and empowerment! The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is a national event that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Join the fun at the University of Memphis and help cheer on participants. This is a great chance to meet people, spread joy, and contribute to making the world more inclusive. Bring your best cheerleading spirit!
3. Soulsville Community Clean-Up
Saturday, April 5 and Saturday, April 19 | 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Put on your gloves and help clean up one of Memphis’ most iconic neighborhoods – Soulsville! Hosted by Memphis Rox, this event is all about giving back to the community. You’ll be helping to beautify the area while meeting new people and making a difference. Cleanup materials are provided, so just bring your energy and good vibes.
4. Volunteer Training with Catholic Charities of West Tennessee
Tuesday, April 15th | 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.
CCWT’s various programs in Midtown bring dignity & resources to those who need it most. Learn how you can make a difference! Whether you're providing essentials through our Shower Ministry, helping transport food as a Volunteer Driver, organizing donations in our Clothing Closet, or lending your data skills from home, there’s a way for you to support our community.
5. VOLUNcheers! at Carpenter Art Garden
Thursday, April 17 | 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Who says volunteer work can’t be fun? Volunteer Odyssey’s monthly VOLUNcheers! event is all about mixing purpose with pleasure. Grab a drink, meet new friends, and learn about the amazing work of Carpenter Art Garden – an organization that helps young creatives grow through art, education, and vocational programs. You’ll also get to work on a hands-on project that supports the mission of this incredible nonprofit. A happy hour with heart – the perfect way to connect with the creative side of Memphis.
6. Earth Day on the Wolf River Greenway
Saturday, April 26 | 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Celebrate Earth Day in a big way by volunteering on the Wolf River Greenway! This service event will focus on planting wildflowers, restoring trails, and cleaning up litter to make the space even more enjoyable for all visitors. It’s part of the Wolf River Conservancy Restoration Series, and it's a great way to give back to the environment while taking in the beauty of one of Memphis' most scenic spots. Whether you're planting or picking up trash, you’ll be making a lasting difference on our beloved greenway.
7. Bluebird Nature Fest and Crawfish Boil
Saturday, April 26 | 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
If you're into volunteering and seafood, then the Bluebird Nature Fest and Crawfish Boil is calling your name! From checking in guests to serving up crawfish and keeping things tidy, you’ll be part of the action at this fun, festive event. It’s all about enjoying nature, supporting local nonprofits, and indulging in delicious food – all while helping things run smoothly.
Plus, save the date for Mix Odyssey on Wednesday, April 30th, as we say, “Cheers!” to the final day of Global Volunteer Month and celebrate our collective impact!

We could use some morning volunteers 7-9am any one of 7 mornings a week, caring for the kitties and cleaning the store, learning medications, leading a crew, all things you learn as well as how to take care of your own kitty inexpensively, learning to notice troubling signs of possible illness, etc.
